A few days ago, I stumbled on H. G. Wells' The Things That Live on Mars. It was a really fun read: around 8 pages of Wells speculating on what life on Mars looks like based on 1908 nonsense astrophysics. The real takeaway is these illustrations by William R Leigh, because just look at these things!

A Martian balcony rendered in blue-greys and whites. The Martians, of which there are several dozen, are winged bipeds with tentacle-esque fingers, big heads and eyes, and wings. The surrounding buildings are very tall. Also, because it's 1908, they have to make it clear that one of the Martians is a "Lady Martian," because she's got her baps out

A coin split in twain by an old god’s weapon, this coin holds a spark of fickle luck. While the coin is on your person, you score a Critical Hit on a roll of 18, 19, or 20, and other creatures score a Critical Hit against you on an attack roll of 18, 19, or 20.

Cracked Crown
Wondrous Item, Rare (Requires Attunement)
The crown of an old god. It holds a spark of godly potential. When you first attune to the crown, choose an ability score from among Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma. While you wear the crown, the chosen ability score increases by 2, as does your maximum for that score, and your Constitution score decreases by 2.

You unleash a storm of metal shrapnel in a 30-foot-radius Emanation around you. Each creature you choose in the Emanation must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 6d6 Piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful save.

A creature damaged by this spell loses 2d4 Hit Points at the start of each of its turns due to a bleeding wound. The target or a creature within reach can take an action to make a Wisdom (Medicine) check against your spell save DC. If the check succeeds, the wound closes. The wound also closes if the creature receives magical healing or if it or a creature within reach takes the Utilize action and expends a use of a Healer's Kit.

Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The initial damage increases by 1d6 for each spell slot level above 4.

Potion of Cloudstepping
Potion, Uncommon
This potion appears to contain a swirling cloud that turns to a glimmering water when opened. When you drink this potion, your jump distance is tripled for 1 hour, and at any point while jumping or falling, provided you don't have the Incapacitated or Prone conditions, you can perform an extra High Jump or Long Jump. This extra jump doesn't cost movement and if you jumped this way as a part of falling, you subtract the distance jumped from your fall when calculating fall damage.

Oil of the Elements
Potion, Uncommon
This shimmering oil is attuned to elemental powers. The oil can coat one weapon or up to 5 pieces of ammunition. Applying the oil takes 1 minute. For 1 hour, when the coated item hits a target as a part of an attack, the target takes an extra 1d6 damage from the attack. The type of this damage is determined by the oil, chosen by the DM or determined randomly from the options below.

You beckon with your hand toward a creature that you can see within range, affecting them in one of the following ways:

Attract. The target creature is pulled towards you a distance up to half the spell’s range.
Repel. The target creature is pushed away from you a distance up to half the spell’s range. This effect can’t push a creature into a space beyond the spell’s range.

A Huge or larger creature can make a Strength saving throw against the spell. On a successful save, it’s unaffected.

Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The range increases by 10 feet for each spell slot level above 2.

Tremolo
