Writer, actor, cat wrangler, layabout. Lover of history, constant reader, compiler of family trees. I produce novels in the manner of a chicken laying eggs: unpredictably, and with great effort. Expect loud clucking if this should occur.

Well, no wonder they are confused -- although they shouldn't be. It would have clarified matters considerably if I could have told them I was both author and publisher now, on the works to which I got back my rights. They could have given me 50%/50% with my goodwill.

It's been so long, I don't remember. Was it even possible to list yourself as both author and publisher, when filling out the claim form?? Seems to me you had to pick one.

I think Meta was the one where the employees were joking back and forth about creating a product like crack, ha ha, so addictive. I could be wrong; my brain has been permanently weakened and addled by social media...

It's worrying me that I have already disputed this but there is nothing on the website showing that I've done so. The "update allocation" option remains. It's still showing PRH as Publisher and their allocation as "default." Which, I assume, is 50%. They reverted the rights to me in 2011...!

Beats me. It's strange; Penguin Random House is showing up as disputing my claim on 2 of my works, even though the percentage shown as mine is still 100%. So I uploaded all the "stuff" just in case.

Yes, but they are trying (in my case) to say they are an additional copyright claimant on books where they clearly had the chance to make that claim years ago and didn't. It's probably redundant. I hope it's redundant. But I'm sending it anyway, LOL.

In add'n to your rights reversion letter, if you have your copyright documentation send that too. My publisher had the chance to certify themselves as an additional copyright claimant on that form, and did not.

Diane Farr @dianefarr.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
IMPORTANT: If you have your copyright documents, I would upload those too. Random Penguin House had the opportunity to name themselves as "other copyright claimant" to my works, and did not.

I am doing this too. As a former litigation secretary, I deeply pity the unfortunate drudge(s) who will be inundated with all our emails tomorrow morning.

Tonight: "Because Objector Werner’s document is not a notice of appeal and any notice of appeal that she does file would be untimely, the Court can deny the requested relief without further briefing." Looks like the first payment will be made in the 1st half of November. :whew:

Her beef is that only 3 of her books were included in the class. Now her publisher has gone belly-up & she can't do anything about the other 4. Well, only 6 of my books were included, so boo-hoo, maybe I'll cut off my nose to spite my face & hurt thousands of fellow authors while I'm at it. :smh:

I second this. Thank you, Courtney. It's impossible to get clear information anywhere else, for reasons that remain obscure to me...! The Anthropic Settlement Website is never updated.

Having worked in law firms over the years, I can confirm that this is definitely the case. But the burning question is... now what?! Apparently Alsup isn't on the case anymore, if I understood him correctly. (said last Dec he'd be "hanging up his robe") Is disbursement delayed? I assume so. 😖

Must share what www.threads.com/@bobbickford7 said, beautifully, about @stephenking.bsky.social: "Stephen King could scribble instructions for feeding his dog while he went on holiday. I'd recognize his voice, anywhere. He writes a paragraph, you smell his fucking soap, right behind you." - Perfect.

I was a theatre major and took Expository Writing. Taught me how to tell a story straight and improved my joke telling forever. It also may have taken the Vulcan mind-meld actors practice in becoming a character, blended this talent with straight-up storytelling, and turned me into a novelist. 👩‍🎓

Very tricky. I retitled my "Fair Game" as "Playing to Win" b/c when I got my rights back from Signet another book called "Fair Game" had just come out. A few readers were annoyed when they bought "Playing to Win" and realized they already owned it as "Fair Game." I did try to warn buyers, but...!

And as a geneaologist, trust me, the people who don't know their parents' birth dates or their mother's maiden name turn out to be the very people who fill out their death certificates. Incorrectly.

I was impressed that a character was named Honey because of her hair. Not because she was sweet or anything gooshy like that.

Oooh, my favorite. Unrequited love, or two people who love each other but can't be together... so satisfying when these couples find their happy ending! You might try The Nobody by, ahem, me. Or The Fortune Hunter, again by me. ;) Happy hunting!

People are exhausted. Also stunned. Also afraid. This time, he said he was coming after us if we resisted. Many people are still trying to come to grips with that, decide what it means, and what to do about it if it means what we think it means.

Apparently an introductory post is expected. Um... :clears throat: I am the author of a dozen or so novels, a few plays, a weekly newspaper column, a couple of poems, and a novella, all of which have been published by somebody other than me. But self publishing is more fun. dianefarrbooks.com
