Timeline cleanse--the peonies are very happy this year, and I'm happy because the pink was from a bare root bulb and is blooming for the first time 3 years later. =)

Pale yellow peony with dark pink in the center and yellow stamens, surrounded by green leaves. Supposed to be a Festiva Maxima (white with pink), but may not be one given the color...

Gorgeous purple-pink intersectional peony with yellow stamens in the center, surrounded by green leaves

White peony with faint blush pink on the outer petals and pale cream inside (Duchess de Nemours peony), surrounded by green green leaves

Pale blush peony (Cora Louise) bloom in the center surrounded by green leaves. You can just get a hint of the dark pink inside.

He's the 10000x times more floof cousin of my brat

A pretty grey cat with so much attitude sniffs the air while standing on a grey chair. Green plants are behind him to the back and to the left, and a calavera pot to his right.

Today's $5 happiness from Trader Joe's.

Who robbed the Louvre? Right answers only.

He will, in fact, standing in front of the door yelling until I put his harness on and take him out.

A grey cat in a grey harness sits on a grey chair in the foreground, on a porch. He is sniffing the air and looks like a gremlin. Behind him are green trees and green vines. A plant in a tall silver plant is to his left (along with a rake). To his right, a white and black calavera/sugar skull planter and a green tree fern in a green pot.

My first tiny waterlily bloom, completely neglected while I was gone and yet still blooming despite it all...

A tiny white waterlily bloom with pink on some of the edges and yellow in the center, with a cream wall above and surrounded by bright green leaves. A blue bowl edge and dingy green algae water below.

Look at this color (it was deep pink before the lemon juice--maybe bc of the super dark red-purple peonies)

Gorgeous deep red-pink peony simple syrup in a blue dutch-oven. The color is vibrant and gorgeous, like the best sunset). Also, it truly tastes just like peonies smell--howww?!!

Diana Gill @dianagilleditorial.com · 26/05/2025

So gorgeous! Mine are blooming for the first time this year. This one just bloomed--maybe same family... (and, yes).

A dark red (looks pink here) peony bloom with white/pink/yellow in the center), with green leaves, a japanese maple and black mulch in the background.

Editorial assistant Moya agrees

Grey cat with green eyes looks out from a brown wooden barrister shelf. Long jagged green leaves are on either side of him (from a philodendron in a blue pot above), and next to the brat are several books.

Something bright and pretty for everyone today--the hellebores and camellia are going wild in the garden. Instant peace and happiness (and, bonus, the hellebores are poisonous <3)

Goth and they know it. Big double hellebore bloom with pointed dark-purple/grey almost black petals wiith bright green-yellow in the center and pale yellow stamens. Background is green hellebore leaves and black mulch. Hellebores are pretty and poisonous and they know it. (Please ignore the part of my hand in the middle left--otherwise you couldn't see the bloom)

Dark purple-gray double hellebore blooms with pale yelow stamens, against a background of green leaves (and, well, part of my hand).

Golden Lotus hellebore--gorgeous yellow-green double layered hellebore flower almost glowing in the sun takes up most of the frame surrounded by green leaves on the left and brown leaves on the right.

Bright true red camellia bloom with yellow stamens in the center, surrounded by dark green glossy leaves. A half-open bud is at the right side of the picture, with a bud to come right above it.

If you, too, would like a moment of calm and a virtual getaway, here's a flashback to Rambergstranda, Lofoten. (Not even my favorite beach there)

Bright blue sky and white clouds in the background against a background of black hills. In the foreground, large seaweed covered rocks in the right lower corner, in front of white sand and shining pale green ocean. Ridiculously gorgeous

Very different, but also v. cute! (Esp. when you could see them up close. Much less cute when they, oh, got into the attic.) Can't find any of my own pix but: www.inaturalist.org/guide_taxa/1...

Mossy green serrated tree trunk in the background. Grey and white super adorable southern flying squirrel on the trunk, looking directly at you. (Probably hoping for peanuts or peanut butter).

Argh, yes. I am losing my brain. But I rechecked--my original label was correct as per the Asia Society (see pic below). It looks like 1/2 of the screen is titled Hell Courtesan then, so we were both correct there (and tx again for finding!) but I was NOT correct in re the other Hell Courtesan.

Provenance and description of Kokunimasa's Hell Courtesan screen (part of a pair of screens).

Diana Gill @dianagilleditorial.com · 24/02/2025

Ooh--thank you! I mixed up the label pictures--my apologies!! This is Kunimasa's Hell Courtesan (also magificent)

Gorgeous picture of a hell courtesan--her ornate black and orange outer robe shows pictures of hell, while skeletons dance around her in the gold background. A saint or daruma dances on top of the biggest skeleton (playing a shamisen)'s head

Detail from "Hell Courtesan," c. 1900, Utagawa Kokunimasa. (If you get a chance to see this screen in person, DO. It's incredible.)

Japanese gold screen--detail showing an intersection of two screens featuring a monoschrome skeleton holding a paper later in its right hand while stepping forward with its left leg as it looks over its left shoulder. Its upper body is significantly larger than the lower body (teeny tiny legs--think dorito body if skeleton). Its face is super expressive and frankly adorable.

When you did not listen to yr mom

A grey cat/Russian blue mix stares out from the back of a wooden cabinet. In front of him, blocking his way out, are numerous cookbooks (Asian & vegetarian). His eyes are super wide--the eyes of a cat who has made a mistake/did not listen, and now has regrets.

I am completely into Norway's big duvet energy. Also, the gorgeous fjords and glaciers and mossy rocked forest and breathtaking nature.

Grey-blue cloudy sky over three mountain peaks, the two left with white waterfalls running down them, the right a steep, stark climb. Green trees in the left foreground and small white house. Big sky country.

Very pretty, very spoiled grey cat perches on a wood bookshelf behind some plant leaves, because I keep working versus petting him.
