First lines: Calypso Morana was five when her world burned.
Later that cruel night, with tears and ash staining her face, she vowed every person involved in the destruction of her realm would die by her hands.
Thirteen years later, that time has come.

The night is still as Calypso plunges her dagger into the bark of a Red Tree, carving deeper as the trunk squirms with each cut. Thick branches above her shake, dropping a crop of crimson leaves in protest. A low warning echoes from the depths beneath the soil as the ground shifts. Slowly a root snaps up, lifting itself to freedom, slithering toward her like an eyeless serpent.
