Save 30% on #NewBook "Reparative Craft" by Jason Edwards, which examines the textile art of theorist Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick. buff.ly/3hbAMdF
Cover of Reparative Craft: Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick as a Textile Artist by Jason Edwards. The cover features a black and white photograph of someone making textile art. At the bottom there are patches of fabric in red, yellow, and dark purple. They are stitched over with overlapping loops. Larger stitches loop across the whole cover. The title is written large in white across the bottom of the photograph. The subtitle appears across the fabrics. Below this and aligned left is the author’s name.

Research fellow Patrick Michael Teed has a new essay out in Diacritics, reexamining the presumed antagonism between Afropessimism and Black feminism. The article is open access and available for everyone to read. @patrickteed.bsky.social @diacriticsjournal.bsky.social tinyurl.com/37t3ffyb
There is a cream-coloured background with an abstract acrylic painting. The header reads "diacritics: a review of contemporary criticism". Below, there is a textbox that reads: "This essay provides an immanent critique of the Afropessimist-Black feminist impasse through a close reading of Iyko Day's "Phobic Pessimism, Philic Feminism by Patrick Michael Teed. Afro-Feminism Before Afropessimism." Delineating how the assumption of an antagonism between Afropessimism and Black feminism necessarily flattens both while relationally constructing the two in a spectacularized field of enmity, this essay reads the demand for their non-coincidence as a staged violence refracting antiblack gendered fantasies. Through this antagonism, both Afropessimism and Black feminism are deployed from without to extend the interlocutory projects of civil society's antiblack discourse. And so, this essay argues, the inability to reckon with the conjuncture of Black feminist Afropessimism reveals how Black thought is scaled through the academy precisely by way of its disappearance in a gendered schema that both forecloses and fixes, indeed forecloses by way of fixing, the Black female imago."
