Doubtful, as this would allow Trump the ability to push recess appointments through without approval. Not that the senate has been anything but a rubber stamp for him anyway, but they traditionally don’t like giving up the power to confirm

Pocket veto is if congress ends their session before the 10 days is up. They almost NEVER technically end their sessions

Guess I need to change my handle on here. I got married two weeks ago, and I took my partner's last name instead of them taking mine. I'm now Doug Lewin :)

How did you find that? (sorry - new to this). I googled the TESS star ID, and it just shows up in text files from what I can tell on Google

Sure - send 'em my way. I'm really curious about this one.

This is probably the weirdest light curve out of the set of over 600 stars I've looked at for this class. 🔭

Surprised my love @katlikespie.bsky.social last night with a screening of arguably the greatest love story ever told, The Princess Bride. The movie was followed by a Q&A with Cary Elwes, and included signed copies of his book.

I almost always have a science (exoplanet, let’s be honest) themed non-fiction book in my reading pile.

Truly important question here... What do you listen to while working on your #Astronomy research/paper reading/paper writing? I saw someone recommend the Interstellar soundtrack (wrote her PhD dissertation to it), but I'm looking for other options.

Douglas Lewin 🔭 @dhilton.bsky.social · 09/02/2026

Yes! It’s a giant ball of plasma that flows throughout the star.

Douglas Lewin 🔭 @dhilton.bsky.social · 09/02/2026

If true, and the number can’t be accounted for in audio book sales or library loans increasing, then this is a sad thing. I will say though that GOOD podcasts are likely better sources of science information due to the speed of discovery.

Did you know that different regions of the sun rotate at different rates? The sun is not a solid object, so rotation speeds can and do vary with latitude. The sun rotates once every ~24 days at the equator, and once every ~30 days at the poles! #SpaceFacts 🔭 www.nasa.gov/image-articl...

Solar Rotation Varies by Latitude - NASA

The Sun rotates on its axis once in about 27 days. This rotation was first detected by observing the motion of sunspots.

Did you know all 4 outer solar system planets have rings, not just Saturn? Jupiter‘s rings are divided into 4 sections, Uranus has 13 known rings, and Neptune has 5! 🔭#SpaceFacts www.planetary.org/articles/rin...

When your professor asks you to create a plot for stellar Teff vs. Mv, and that's too easy, you do it in Python and learn a bit about MatPlotLib :)
