Genetic Diversity in Deer Mice at Indiana University - a report Havahart mouse trap for the win! Mouse upstairs stealing Lola's kibble. She's almost 16 & declined to participate. Trap clicked about 5:30 am. Mouse got the traditional peanut butter snack, car ride and serenaded with EDM.

In other news... Finally blended & decanted the limoncello project. A month steeping was Christmas & Covid & I just didn't get there. I'm sincerely afraid this stuff will remove paint. Those lemon peels gave their all though. Also must relabel decanter.

This from the Asst Athletic Director for IT posted this morning. Athletics at a B1G school involve a LOT of specialized tech. A/V, human performance, compliance, facilities... These folks are good at tech and valuing their people.

What Patrick said. UITS is a force multiplier for me and my staff. We don't run our own email server, domain servers, SCCM instance, or network infrastructure. EWA is taking care of my servers so I don't have to think about them as much. I don't spend my days writing up documentation on how to use Office365 or create a VPN. When something goes wrong, I have a community of experts willing to jump in and help solve problems. This allows us more time to focus on the tech unique to our department and provide this program the support required to achieve this level of excellence. So THANK YOU to everyone! We're national flippin' champs! Here is the approximate moment when I lost my mind sometime in the fourth quarter:

Long one, but such a great example of leadership. AVP of Enterprise IT Support posted this to the Teams group chat Tuesday morning. There's a reason he's a rising star. IU's IT infrastructure, operations & governance are envied by bigger, wealthier institutions for a reason.

Alright, quick humble brag because it absolutely deserves it.

IU is one of only a very small number of schools ever to have undefeated national championship teams in both football and men’s basketball.

That was genuinely awesome to watch and I hope you all enjoyed it. And for those of you in Bloomington who may have ventured out to Kirkwood after the game, I hope you are reading this from your home or office as opposed to a holding cell this morning.

Now the real point. Every single one of you played a small, and in some cases very large, role in making what we saw in Miami possible. Consistent, competent IT services and support for Athletics, as well as the schools and administrative units that keep student-athletes, coaches, and staff moving. Quietly locking down cybersecurity while the spotlight was blazing. Supporting campus and university leaders so they can watch and participate from wherever they are in the world. Plus about a thousand other things that never make ESPN but absolutely matter.

Even if you don’t touch Athletics day to day, your work still counts. Last night was proof. This stuff stacks. Reliability stacks. Excellence stacks, and you all are doing excellent things together everyday.

Big win. On the field and off. And you should feel proud today. Good job, IU!

River flows from south to north. Very unusual. In Moorhead, MN where my Mom eventually lived, one plugged up the floor drain in the basement to keep the river from backing up into it. Most of the low lying land along the river in towns are planned for flooding.

I drove this 1982 - 1994. FWD, the distribution of engine weight over the front wheels made it oddly very capable in snow. Thing was a complete rustbucket by the time I gave it up. All those vintage Datsuns come from places with no winter.

Swapping the thermostat - new version $79.99 at Lowe's. Power out here has been mercurial at times this year. Possible damage to thermostat not unreasonable. Final troubleshooting before scheduling a service call.
