Our lab was a special case. He would dig under water for sticks! And he always had the biggest stick.

I spent evenings scouring the fruit trees in Batac with my flashlight, looking for fruit bats. It was one of the times I was really missing my camera!

Finding nests of any type is a wonderful thing! Saw a nest yesterday about two meters off the ground, put my cell phone camera on 10 second timer, and took some shots to see if it was occupied. It was - by a very hungry robin! I look forward to seeing some great hummingbird photos!

How did I not hear of this until I read Puff's post? I reposted her post but want to bring more awareness to this. And for anybody who wonders what the context was, it really doesn't matter. Open racial hatred can not, and should never, be excused by "context". @mskellymhayes.bsky.social

Can't argue with that logic! I have so many photos of stray cats from various countries that I could publish a book! Here's one from Mexico.

Obama Appreciation Day Someone told me it was Obama Appreciation Day today. Being a Canuck, I may have a biased view as our news generally reported only good things about him. Here is Obama causing a stir in his tan suit.

Without a doubt, Venice was one of our favorite destinations. And I'm pretty sure I have the same photo taken from the same bridge! Of course, my favorite photo was my wife reading the Ponte de le Tete sign and realizing where she was standing!

This is my favorite market cat. Sprawled out on the bottom shelf outside a store in Vigan, Philippines. When I touched her paw, she rolled over and gave me the sweetest smile.

The Lapu-Lapu vigil ended with a double rainbow. I thought this was fitting. The vigil to remember the victims of the Lapu-Lapu Festival incident was well attended - many people including the mayor and three city councilors, and our MP- Elect, Stephen Fuhr. @markcarneyforpm.bsky.social

You can tell it is spring when the flowers start popping up! On a walk yesterday, there were a half-dozen making their appearance, including this yellow fritillary.

Day 15: Doug's Assorted Asian Animals Been a few days since I posted. We're back on Canadian soil, and spent our last night in Manila. Here's a beautiful little stray from the Manila Bay seawall, a great place to watch the sunset. #caturday

Doing my part! Timmie's in Manila. On our way back to Canada after three months exploring Asia. (Yes, I know Timmie's isn't truly Canadian, but it was still nice to see a taste of Canada in Manila!)

Day 12: Doug's Assorted Asian Animals Bohol Beach Dog - spotted this little guy on Alona Beach, Panglao (Bohol). I think it's appropriate that he's having an afternoon snooze after indulging in some San Mig.

Mount Kanlaon from the air. Flying from Bohol to Luzon, i noticed this beautiful cone above the clouds. It does make you a bit uneasy to see the steam venting from the crater. And then, I get back to Zaragoza and read that it is at Alert Level 3, with 10 earthquakes in the past 24 hours.

Day 11: Doug's Assorted Asian Animals So we took a little side trip on Bohol into a little cave, and it was one of the best decisions of the day. Lots of assorted little critters, including this beautiful whip scorpion. I've seen these guys on TV but now I've seen them in the wild!

Day 10: Doug's Assorted Asian Animals Today's animal is the tarsier, a cute little primate found in Bohol, Philippines and other areas in SE Asia. They are nocturnal, so getting photos with eyes open in the daytime is not that common.

Day 9: Doug's Assorted Asian Animals Yes, yes, I know. It's another cat. But hear me out - this one is different. She's not a market cat or a temple cat. She's a restaurant cat at a seafood restaurant on Alona Beach, Bohol 🇵🇭. Caught her in mid yawn after I asked her to move.

Day 7: Doug's Assorted Asian Animals This little beauty, with heterochromatic eyes, just showed up on Tuesday at the house in Zaragoza, Philippines. And yes, I do have a lot of cat photos! As soon as I pull out my phone, my wife knows there is a cat in the area.

It's a coati from a recent trip to Mexico. They are very similar to raccoons, and unfortunately get very accustomed to people because tourists feed them. This little guy was standingbon a deck chair, begging for some of my ice cream. The series of photos looks like he's dancing the YMCA.

Day 7: Doug's Assorted Asian Animals A beautiful bird from around Zaragoza, Philippines. The Java sparrow, also known as a maya (along with a bunch of other birds), is on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species with less than 10,000 left in the wild. Again, stretching my cell phone to its limit.

Day 5: Doug's Assorted Asian Animals for Stress Relief Here is a beautiful little store cat from the historic town of Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, from yesterday. She was sprawled out on the bottom of the outdoor shelves, and when I touched her paw, she rolled over and gave me the cutest look.

Day 3: Doug's Assorted Asian Animals - Golden mantled fruit bat Not the best photo I've ever taken, but with a cell phone zoomed in about as much as possible, at arm's length, while holding a flashlight, it came out not bad. I do miss my big camera sometimes but I don't miss the weight.

In my last two months of traveling around Asia, I have taken photos of a variety of animals, from fruit bats to market cats. And in a feeble attempt to distract from the daily stress around us, I'll be posting one photo a day of an animal from my travels. Day 1: Cafe cats, Nagsurot, Philippines

I've tried to live my life with no egrets. But it seems very difficult to do. Hence, the great philosophical question - is it better to have a few great egrets, or a field full of lesser egrets.
