I think part of why we're rejecting "AI" en masse is because when the Internet went commercial, it was a unifying event that invited participation and interaction. "AI" is an isolating technology that's meant to reduce human participation as much as possible. How is that fun?

That’s one of those lines that gets casually ignored almost immediately afterwards because it’s even more bullshit science than Trek usually engages in - it was supposed to be “we’re so awesome in the future, all these common ailments are gone,” and then they realized “oh, no, that’s stupid.”

Yeah, it hurts both characters, especially when you remember that TFA framed the Resistance as a volunteer militia, and TLJ treats it more like a traditional military, so Poe’s actions make more sense in the militia version, while Holdo does in the military version.

Honestly, I even find him being considered that a framing issue more than a character issue. He has solid reasons for his choices, he had justifications, he even agrees when let in the loop, but he's excluded from that loop for... what seems like a personal dislike by a CO.

Yeah, that's my thing. I really feel like TLJ works best separate from the other parts of the trilogy, which... isn't good for the middle part of it. It really felt more like a movie that should have been set during the OT, not in the status quo of the post-ROTJ setting.

Because while I'm critical of the year long production of a ten episode season that makes the default of the streaming model, preventing SNW from being as timely in its messaging as prior Treks have been, it's still been a choice made to go in a "that thing, but Star Trek!" direction...

Personally, I think there's a lot of production side of things that probably work against SNW, but it's still a choice of those in charge of the show itself who are at fault. I seem to recall some comments of uncertainty if there'd be a season four when season three wrapped...

SNW overall has felt very much like it wants too much to be TOS but with a budget, rather than really utilizing its unique characters and cast to their fullest - Ortegas took near three full seasons for a focus episode, and Number One is out of focus more often than not...

The problem of SNW doing gimmicks every episode is that a gimmick episode is interesting when it breaks the normal, so when every episode is the break, the normal never settles. There's a read of using the gimmicks to explore each main character differently, but that thread's pretty thin.
