Well said.
Excerpt from the linked article in the quoted post that reads: The Prairieland defendants were motivated by an opposition to ICE and the terrors they have and continue to unleash on communities; a position that, per a February 2026 poll, is held by a majority of Americans. How many people in your life feel the same way? And how about you—have you ever gone to an anti-ICE protest, complained about capitalism, or joined a neighborhood Signal chat? Congratulations. Definitionally, you’re an “antifa member”—and in the eyes of the US government, that makes you a terrorist.

Federal prison DENIED Song's ballistics expert access to his client and Trump appointed Judge Mark Pittman DENIED defense the ability to argue self-defense after trial revealed officer drew and aimed at the back an unarmed, fleeing protester. This trial was rigged.
Excerpt from the Intercept article linked in the quoted post that reads:

Together, this new evidence of a ricochet matches the information that became apparent only during the trial when Gross testified that he drew his weapon first and aimed at a fleeing protester. Drawing on this testimony, along with video evidence, Song recounted the same version of events in a statement he read during sentencing.

“When I saw Lieutenant Thomas Gross stop pursuing and point his gun at the back of a running, unarmed protester, like he testified, I was terrified,” Song said. “As a firearms instructor and a United States Marine Corps veteran, I understood what I was seeing. As the evidence shows, I did not want to hurt anyone.”

With the timeline to appeal closing in, funds for both appeals and state lawyers are vital. We encourage you to share this link or host your own fundraising events locally, and we are grateful for your support. Together we will bring the defendants home! www.GiveSendGo.com/supportDFWProtestors
Flyer with dull red and dark blue pixelated background that reads: Help Fund Appeals And State Trials. While federal sentencing for the Prairieland defendants has passed, the defendants are still filing appeals!

Not only that, there are state trials upcoming for everybody. Please don't let the momentum and attention on this case wane!

The defendants need to raise funds for both appeals and state lawyers, which are extremely costly. Not only that, the timeline to appeal is closing in, making the need to pay for lawyers even more pressing.

Share the fundraiser links widely! We encourage you to host your own fundraising events to raise more funds.

the past month due to consistent, violent spraying of a cognitively disabled woman who is bravely refusing to be strip searched. On June 23, she was threatened by Licensed Clinical Social Worker Joy White after asserting her right to counsel. This is unacceptable, and has (2/3)
Hello, I’m calling on behalf of people incarcerated at Johnson County who are facing horrendous conditions. The mental and physical torture of segregation needs to stop at this facility. Those in segregation have a much higher chance of being neglected by jail staff ,and most jail deaths at Texas jails have happened in segregation. Deaths happened in Johnson County Jail in 2016, 2020, 2021, and this past Wednesday due almost entirely to medical neglect.

Maricela Rueda, who has high blood pressure and is also 33, needs to be moved from segregation to general population immediately. Maricela has been housed in segregation for a month now and has experienced torture, violation, and threats from staff. Are you aware that a woman near where Maricela is housed has been pepper sprayed 5 times this month? (wait for response) Her crime? Refusing to be strip searched. There are also clear signs that this woman has a cognitive disability yet instead of care she meets abuse. Also, were you aware that Maricela was threatened with being held naked in a suicide cell for 4 days by Licensed Clinical Social Worker Joy White when she invoked her right to counsel? (wait for response) Due to the threats against her, we also demand that Licensed Clinical Social Worker White not be allowed contact with Maricela.

Segregation is a violent place. Maricela needs to be moved to general population immediately. At the very least, she needs to be housed in an infirmary cell with other incarcerated people. We know there are beds available in multi person infirmary cells, so there is no reason she cannot be moved into one of these She was housed with codefendants for months pre trial and post trial. Of course, it would be best for her to be moved to general population, which she has been housed in with zero problems for months at Wichita Falls Jail. We will not stop calling until all our loved ones are in general population. We wil not sit back and let this jail let people die.

Mari, like her codefendants Benjamin “Champagne Song” and Zachary Evetts, is being held in segregation. She has faced extensive violating strip searches, excessive surveillance during meetings with lawyers, and was forced to breathe in pepper spray chemicals 5 times across (1/3)
Slide has text in caption.Lt. Gross, the cop who was allegedly shot in the Prairieland Case, was sued in 2021 for stripping down an incarcerated man and holding him naked in a refrigerated suicide cell to make him talk without his lawyer present.
This coercive, violent, humiliating behavior is normalized in Johnson County. After returning from sentencing on June 23, Maricela was interviewed by mental health coordinator, LCSW Joy White who started asking intrusive questions about the defendants plans for appeal. . Maricela asked if she could call her lawyer. White responded: “You’re not going to be calling anyone. You’re going to be naked in a padded cell for 4 days”.1. North Texas “antifa” case for participating in a noise demonstration at the Prairieland Detention Center on July 4, 2025, sent me via the jail messaging system two days after the verdict. …….. I don’t know what the future holds in terms of our First Amendment right to (2/3)
We were both shocked we hadn’t crossed paths before considering our similarities being vegan, animal lovers, avid readers, and nature enthusiasts. Savanna, like all the other defendants, had lives before that were forever changed all because of a night protest. I recall listening to Maricela Rueda and Benjamin Song, which I referred to as Champagne, recite poetry at an open mic at the Apprentice Creative Space in Oak Cliff. I remember hearing a speech by Champagne at a vigil in early 2024 in front of Dallas MEPS in honor of Aaron Bushnell, an U.S. Airman who self-immolated to protest the ongoing genocide in Palestine at the hands of Israel and manufactured consent by the U.S. Each defendant deserves to be humanized instead of being equated to an alleged North Texas “antifa” cell that the Department of Justice wants the public believing is a threat to society. As a community organizer and activist who has been active in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the past several years, the outcome of this trial is a ripple effect in community organizing spaces as grief, anger, uncertainty, fear, and determination sink in. If I speak out against the U.S. government, do I risk being targeted? If I attend a protest, is there a possibility I will never return home?

The Prairieland defendants went to a protest on July 4 and never returned home. They consist of mothers, a father, spouses, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, etc.In September 2025, the Department of Justice deleted a study that documented the rise in far-right terrorism and how it has outpaced all types of domestic terrorism, despite the Trump administration pushing the narrative of left-wing political violence in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death.

No one died on July 4, 2025. Five people died in the aftermath of January 6, 2021, after insurrectionists who were later pardoned by President Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol incited by the President for alleging the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election was stolen from him.As of May 2026, it was announced Trump would use $1.776 billion in taxpayer dollars for a slush fund for January 6 insurrectionists. This fund has been halted by a federal judge due to a pending lawsuit, and has been criticized by both Republicans and Democrats.

Savanna, along with six other defendants, faces 10-60 years in prison for attending a noise demonstration, wearing black, and bringing a first aid kit that included a tourniquet. According to her family, Savanna wouldn’t even harm an insect; yet the Trump administration claims she is part of a domestic terrorist organization.

“Heartbroken doesn’t even begin to describe it, but this isn’t over either and I’m going to continue to fight this.”

This is the first sentence Savanna Batten, one of the nine defendants who was convicted in the North Texas “antifa” case for participating in a noise demonstration at the Prairieland Detention Center on July 4, 2025, sent me via the jail messaging system two days after the verdict. On March 14, I was awoken a little after 4 a.m. in Tokyo, Japan by a text message from Chris Tolbert, Savanna’s federal attorney who I was a paralegal for when a verdict had been reached. I was 14 hours ahead and I jumped out of my bed, my heart racing as I waited for an update. Less than an hour later, the numbness kicked in as uncontrollable crying overcame me. Tolbert’s words to me: We lost. Savanna had been found guilty of all four counts: riot, providing material support to terrorists, conspiracy to use and carry an explosive, and use and carry of an explosive.During the trial, the majority of evidence presented by the U.S. government focused primarily on political paraphernalia and firearms in an open carry state found in the homes of defendants and labeling black clothing as “tactical gear” to criminalize their character in the eyes of the jury. Their narrative seemed far-fetched to portray a noise demonstration as a “coordinated attack.”

On my last day at the trial on March 4, she looked at me withholding tears and, in that moment, I yearned to give her a hug. She called me that evening on my rainy drive back home to Dallas to say goodbye as I vowed to stay in touch. The first time I saw Savanna before July 4, 2025, was in early June 2025 providing jail support for detained protestors at Dallas County Jail after an anti-ICE protest in Dallas. Less than a year later, I never thought I would become a part of her legal team visiting her at the Wichita County Jail in December 2025. She remembered me, and from then on, a friendship bloomed beyond the jail walls.
