Tonight’s #cocktail is the Greenpoint, named for the Brooklyn neighborhood. Based on the Brooklyn (based on the Manhattan) it has rye, sweet vermouth, yellow chartreuse and bitters. It’s tasty. The chartreuse is present but well balanced.
A coupe with an amber liquid (the Greenpoint drink) and a lemon peel on the rim.

Tasting some Brooklyn rye in a Hudson Manhattan tonight. That’s rye, sweet vermouth, aperol, and bitters. I think I still like the peppery finish of Rittenhouse better but this is tasty rye.
A bottle of Jaywalk Rye.

I dug through my old photos and found Cassandra Wilson singing in 2015. She apologized for the sun glasses inside at night: she and the band had celebrated well after winning an award for their album the previous night!

Tonight’s #cocktail is the French Gimlet with gin, Saint Germain, and lime. The very first taste seemed a little tart but the second sip was perfect.

I voted in the democratic primary! I sent mixed signals I fear: supporting some incumbents and voting to oust others. I hope they all know that I’m right!

There was a nearly Dickensian pile of kids trying to catch balls that came over the third base net either leaving play or because a player tossed it towards them. They celebrated the victory too
A few of those kids. I was distracted by the celebrations of the team

Yesterday we saw the Hudson Valley Renegades take on the Delaware Blue Rock. The Fishkill home team despite being shut out for eight innings staged a powerful comeback in the ninth to win 8 to 5. Fun minor league baseball!

Now playing Vijay Iyer (p), Prasanna (guitar) and Nitin Mitta (tabla) with Tirtha. Some very careful listening is going on amongst this trio for an interwoven yet angular sound #jazzsky

Sticking to the Quad Stage to be gentle on my sore knee for Atomic Habitz, a bass, drums and guitar trio. Nate Smith, our music director, sings their praises. Check out the bass players duds! #NewportJazz

I think we can call these folks a big band and not merely a very large band. Horns, strings, guitars, and on. I’m not sure the camera has focused on all the players yet. #NewportJazz.

Hopping to the Harbor Stage for Linda May Han Oh with Tyshawn Sorey and Ambrose Akinmusire. The jazz journalists gave Oh and Akinmusire awards. The presenter assured us that Sorey has gotten his share. Oh and Sorey are laying down quite a groove!

Hopping to the Harbor Stage to hear bass player Mohini Dey. Her jazz fusion is Indian inflected in a way that’s rather different from a lot of the other indo-jazz players. Very cool

We took a walk along the grounds and came across this sign. It reads “Perimeter Pools No Soap Please” I know what they mean but I said “No soap…” out loud waiting to hear “radio” in response when I saw the sign

On vacation last week we saw fireworks over Kezar lake in Maine. They had some trouble with the barge from which they were launching. (Please don’t use water to put out a fire on a fireworks barge though. Yikes)

Celebrating Angelique Kidjo’s birthday by going way back to 1991 with Logozo. We saw her in 1996 at the Somerville Theater when she was still performing a bunch of these tunes (and we have seen her countless times since). Happy birthday!

Just got back from Antonio Sanchez, Edmar Castaneda, and Bela Fleck doing their BEAT trio at the #Mahaiwe. An amazing show. We heard them last year at #newportjazz and I think this set was better. It’s always a joy to hear great musicians both playing their hearts out and listening to each other
