Anyway, my favorite sunset pic I've ever taken: Busan, South Korea, September 2010. Haeundae Beach.
The sun's rays are peeking through the clouds and the skyscrapers as the sun sets, creating a lighting effect where half the beach is lit up and half (in the foreground) is in shadow.

I am *losing it at Vetaw's comment.
"I'm devastated," Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw, one of the city's most vocal advocates for maintaining the unit, said in an interview. "These horses can see and do things that regular officers can't. They were a unique tool that I was glad Minneapolis had."

Cub Foods is similar to Target: best price is $4.99/lb. The Aldi in St. Cloud has the best price, at $4.29/lb, but you have to buy in bulk. I have to eat beef for my anemia (it's the best way I've found to fix my issues). If there was $2/lb beef, I'd find it.
A tube of ground beef, $4.99/lb.A five lb package of ground beef on sale for $21.45 at Aldi, which is 17% off. It works out to 4.29/lb.

My friend who lives in Emmer's district did a little recon for me. Cheapest beef in his area is $4.39/lb at Target, more than twice what Emmer claimed. I did some looking online and Coborn's, the local grocer in his district, is $7.99/lb - more than 4x Emmer's claim.
Private label four brothers ground chuck: 7.99/lba tube of greater omaha 86/14 ground round: 7.99/lb

Four Brothers USDA certified Hereford 85/15, 16oz (1lb) is 7.99.

Ken told me on August 1st to give him a call the following Monday, August 3rd. I called him twice that day and again the following day. He did not call me back. He has not responded to my texts either.
“Hi Ken! Do you have time on Monday to chat? That might be easier than playing phone tag.”

Ken: “sure just call when you can on Monday, and if I don’t pick up I will call you back. My schedule is crazy.”

Me: Torallt! My Saturday ended up brig super filly so I apologies for missing your calls.”

August 14th: I sent a message about another Dem being transphobic.

i feel like this story from my cousin is illustrative of where American Evangelicalism has been for a long time and how the bigoted elements were there from the beginning, while more empathetic elements have been pushed out.
I was a sophomore in college when 9/11 happened. My majors were lit/writing and political science. The next semester I decided to write a persuasive essay on why Islam was incompatible with democracy of the American variety and why our form of gov’t couldn’t take root in Islamic countries—the idea was that our political freedoms were born of Christianity. My professor told me my premise was so bad and wrong that it was a waste of time to write the paper. He also tried to humiliate me as a bigot in front of the class. This was at a Christian liberal arts school and he was considered a conservative prof. He wanted me to say Islam was a religion of peace and only perversions of Islam were violent, likening it to bad actors in Christianity. That was wrong then and now—it is exactly the opposite. I took the hit on my grade and wrote the paper anyway. I cried over the public humiliation and the bad grade. But 25 years later and I wouldn’t change the premise, just how much I cared what the prof and my classmates thought of me

I love Riverside Plaza. The space was envisioned as reflecting the diversity inside through the different colored panels on the outside.
Riverside Plaza in Minneapolis, which has 1300 apartments across 6 buildings of varying heights. The buildings form a series of landscaped courtyards, featuring fountains, a clock tower, terraces, playgrounds, and various other amenities. Each building has a different height, intended to reflect the diversity of its population.

A new magazine is launching and pitching themselves as the replacement for Lavender Magazine. Considering Lavender closed suddenly in July, declaring that gays have won and we don't need to fight anymore, I felt the need to send them an email.
Hi Andy et al,

As you may know, the way that Lavender closed its doors in July left a sour taste in the mouths of a ton of the LGBT community in Minnesota, with the proclamation that "Today Lavender is 31 years old and the rights have been uniformly achieved and systematized. Gays can go into any restaurant or bar as a group, have dinner, drinks, and no one would say another word. We have arrived!!!"

Considering that Minnesota is a trans refuge state because our rights are not universal in the US, this read as wildly out of touch and very white and cisgender focused. As you are pitching yourselves as the replacement for Lavender Magazine, and have brought Lavender people on board, I want to know what reparative steps you will be taking to ensure that the trans community in Minnesota feels represented by this venture.

We are a massive part of the community here, and the way Lavender left things off really frustrated us. We don't have rights for all.

Thanks!
Dex Anderson (they/them)

I emailed the author and got this completely unacceptable reply. What I can't fathom is why he didn't contact Ash's mom and ask her how he should refer to her son.
Good day, Dex –

Thank you for your email and sharing the points you raise.

The story has one paragraph from CaringBridge merely as a supporting source. The bulk of the story was based on police and fire accounts, historical data and a small amount from a GoFundMe page.

The name I use is the one provided by police. The story also includes the name Ralallo-Korbel chooses to go by, Ash.

As for the lack of pronouns, the publicly available police and fire accounts also chose not to use pronouns.

Again, thank you for writing and expressing yourself so clearly, and thank you for reading startribune.com.

Paul

This is a politics of fear, not ideas. It's notable that a 32 hour work week - a 4 day work week! - is listed among the "scary" things the DSA stands for. What's so scary about permanent 3 day weekends? I assure you, the 40 hour work week scared the shit out of the capitalists and now it's the norm.
Centrist Democrats say their purpose is to make progressives understand the risks of some of the more radical planks of the official D.S.A. platform: defunding the “Department of War,” taking “steps toward fully abolishing the police and prison system,” enacting “reparations” and establishing a 32-hour workweek.

their strategy for the past, what, four elections? Has been "we're not the Republicans" and that isn't enough. Too many people understand at this point that "we're not Republicans [but we'll vote like them]" is the message, and that's simply not acceptable anymore.
Their fear: Dr. El-Sayed was paving a path for a progressive to seize the party’s presidential nomination in 2028 — and then go on to lose the general election.
