Rand's probably the best character but you don't really get his *full* development until after Book 6. It's a slow burn, a bit like Mat was this series. Season 3 will ramp things up for him significantly. Egwene and Nynaeve don't stop being awesome.

My friend and I have been joking about how Nynaeve is a much more interesting character in the series. In the book, her entire personality is basically just "Am angry. Tug braid."

That's a good question. I just watched S1E2 with a friend where she goes over the paths. In this universe it was worded as "the last defense of her life, the life of her warder, or the life of another Aes Sedai" Maybe she knew there were Aes Sedai in the city? Or that Egwene was atop the tower.
