Zombuffoonery is a simple but goofy zombie survival game, just like the name suggests. We start as a kid on a map that gets filled with zombies pretty quickly. They all want to hug us, but our gun won't let them for some reason. So we blow their brains out as they try to eat ours, collect the coins they leave behind and use them to become increasingly ridiculous at killing things.

What started as a university graduation project has grown into a surprisingly chaotic restaurant game where the raccoon doesn't actually do any cooking. Here, you're running around the restaurant, delivering ingredients, protecting customers and dealing with monsters while the Chef does the cooking. Sous Raccoon has since moved into Early Access, with new content, controller support and online co-op for up to four players being added along the way.

SiN games are proof that games can become more interesting the older they get. Unlike wine, they may not have aged particularly well, but they can show us how strange, ambitious and sometimes downright crazy they were for their time. Ritual Entertainment released this bad boy in 1998. We played it five years later when we got our first PC, but we remember it being full of ideas like computers to hack, security cameras to use, elevators to operate, vehicles to drive, enemies to disarm, as well as localized damage, alternate routes and branching objectives.

TOEM was such a great game. We loved how warm that black-and-white world could feel, with all the lovable characters, memorable locations and tiny details that made us stop and look around. We spent so much time playing it on our Steam Deck, taking turns with our nephews and competing over who could take the best photographs or collect the most stamps.

Yup, if this isn't the most inventive way to rebel against your blood-craving daddy-o, then we don't know what is. In all seriousness, Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire is a farming action roguelite that has now made its way to PS5 after originally launching on PC in 2023.

The first Minecraft Dungeons gave us a different way to experience the Minecraft universe and, most importantly, proved that taking the basic idea of Diablo could work remarkably well in the recognizable blocky world. We've been fans of Remedy Entertainment ever since their first games. From the first few steps into Blackshard's Labyrinth, we found ourselves staring at things that seemed impossible to explain. Enormous structures rise from empty spaces, walls lead nowhere, and strange combinations of geometric shapes create places that feel more like someone's impossible dream than somewhere people were ever meant to live. BLACKSHARD is a beautiful game, with constructions and designs that make very little sense to the logical mind, but are presented in such a captivating way.

Graveyard Keeper came at a time when we were absolutely fed up with farming games and their same old, rather worn-out gameplay mechanics. It caught us completely by surprise. We didn't expect to be dealing with corpses, digging graves, removing organs and finding increasingly questionable ways to make money from the dead. Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth is a game that is like a fairytale, and the opening reminded us of children's books that we used to stare at in awe as kids. Everything is wonderfully drawn and subtly animated, which, in combination with the atmospheric soundtrack, really pulls us into the world.
