I haven’t been on here for a while but seeing as it’s the only social media not entrenched in fascism here’s some poetry (I am still active on ig but fuck it’s a hellhole) Anyway this is called // BIG BANG // published by Silver Clouds Zine & it’s about destiny or whatever ❤️‍🔥 #poetry #writing

// BIG BANG //

I have the big bang inside me & I hope I explode beautifully
beginnings expanding upon themselves exponentially
do you think when God made the world he knew what we’d do with it
is he bemused by our interpretation of fate or in awe of it
did he plan all these miracles or did we read into them like poetry
finding metaphors he never foresaw
& forging life far past those seven days

My poem // HOW VULNERABLE // in Issue 13 of @livinapress.bsky.social a devastating love poem written a fortnight before my heartbreak ❤️‍🩹 thank you @lacifelker.bsky.social for having me x #poetry #writing #love #lovepoem

// HOW VULNERABLE //

Being a romantic is a terrifying enterprise

how vulnerable to want something the way I want you

I take a photo in my head of you set against the skyline

when I’m cold at night I drink it like tea

Why do my hands feel so suddenly empty when

they have so much to hold

I’m getting old & the Summers don’t last

will you stay even as the weather keeps changing?

Will you put it into words this

vacancy in my chest

every silence I ever kept

will you sing it like a lyric

Will you look at me like I’m more than an enigma

will you unfold me like a future

will you linger

like the sun which sets but wakes me in the morning?

some more eroticism…… this one is a bit…… suggestive…… but I gotta make use of that $20 Canva subscription this poem is about one of my favourite lovers I’ve ever had who ended up breaking my heart in a deeply traumatic fashion but hey, the memories live on #poetry #NSFW

// RIDE YOU //

I ride you till I get motion sickness
& then I ride you some more
I like fucking you so bad it makes my
thighs cramp
& I have to lie back
on your memory foam pillows
& make you come to me

Making love is easy when I’m
making it with you
it’s so funny
& shameless & ecstatic
I can’t tell you how hard it’s been to be
held right
but here you are now
set a timer & I’ll
milk every minute
for what you’re worth

kinda ended this with the greatest pun of my entire career…… bonus points for being a Kerouac reference 😭 // THE VISION OF YOU TAPPING AWAY AT A TYPEWRITER WITH A CIGARETTE HANGING FROM YOUR LIPS WEARING ONE OF YOUR CUNTY LITTLE TANK TOPS HAS ME FEELING LIKE GOD ISN’T DEAD //

// THE VISION OF YOU TAPPING AWAY AT A TYPEWRITER WITH A CIGARETTE HANGING FROM YOUR LIPS WEARING ONE OF YOUR CUNTY LITTLE TANK TOPS HAS ME FEELING LIKE GOD ISN’T DEAD //

I sent you the above as an Instagram DM
then said that’s a poem title & wrote it down just now
& my laptop immediately crashed
if that means anything

maybe that I, like you, was born in the wrong generation
& would thrive in a more analogue atmosphere
but if this was the fifties you would be famous & I
would be even more doomed by the narrative, or already dead

but I am not dead & neither is God
which I know because you smoke cigarettes & wear cunty little tank tops
& have arms that I stare at through my phone screen sometimes like a nightcap
& a typewriter & the Kerouac x Steve Allen jazz collab on vinyl

I know God isn’t dead because I went to have non-committal sex with my Instagram follower
& found a Beat instead
now I tape all the pages together
so I don’t have to change the sheets

I DON’T KNOW HOW THE FUCK TO TALK TO YOU SO I’LL JUST WRITE YOU ANOTHER POEM

I wish I could’ve wanted you
in a way that doesn’t scare you
it scares me too
but I guess I found that kind of… exciting

but here I am standing around
tryna snatch some fragment of a word from you
just a word, cos my hopes for a conversation
were too high, I realise now

& I feel like an idiot
I feel small, smaller than I am
& it’s not your fault I feel that way
but you’ve still got a part to play in it
you’ve still got pieces in the chess game
or whatever stalemate fuckery this is
whatever attempted strategy
that didn’t seem to work

my #Nosferatu themed poem in Issue 4 of @underbellypress.bsky.social ~ thank you so much Lucy for having me! 🖤 #poetry #writing #literature

// MY MASOCHISM MANIFESTS //

My masochism manifests as a frugal refusal to turn the heat on
I am just a poor wee thing, emphasis on poor
I am a Victorian damsel donning a long white robe
haunting my own bedroom window like in Nosferatu
begging Count Orlok to come for me
take me away to where I don’t have to think
about trivial things like electricity bills
or adulthood or decency
I want to be devoured I want to be in heat
instead of lonely & chilled to the bone

you ever had a man drive so bad he fumbles you?

In the shops you pull up for a minute like that’ll help anything. Take me home, I beg of you, I’m too young to die. At the on-ramp of the Mt Vic tunnel is where the headlights start looking like angels. Not guardians looking out for me but ambivalence looking to take me away. I’ve never felt more unsafe with a man at the wheel. It’s a miracle that we make it, that we manage to merge lanes. You say it when you park up & I free myself from our fate: I can’t believe we made it. If we made it. If we didn’t leave something on the beach where my unearned but freely-given faith in you got swept out to sea.

I’m not going back for it. Some things survive, some things get lost to the light.

had an unhinged experience translate itself into this poem which just came out of me & I feel compelled to share #poem #poetry #writer #writersky

// DRIVE SLOW //

Like all things with us thus far there is an impulse & alignment that makes me get in your car. The angels planned this journey but we think we know where it will lead..... so sweet, so ignorant. As soon as I see you longing for me I know it’ll be a long trip. I hit your vape & it tastes like shit. I play that one song & wish I could listen to it over & over but I am not alone anymore. At the beach, you photobomb my selfie. There is an ocean of drowning behind us. You ask if you can kiss me & my eyes find the horizon, my heart flung into the omniscient bliss of the insistent sunset.

// SHITPOSTING INTO THE GRAVE //

I have shitposted myself into a grave too many times to count
I guess I’ve been seeking a stage what can I say I’m an entertainer
but they’re not laughing to my face they’re only brave behind my back
& they think too much woman too honest a woman is a problem

Maybe everything would be easier if I wasn’t on a platform
but it would be more boring too
what other void would I self-express into
oh what a curse of a blessing it is to be known

I’m sorry I’m so funny I’m sorry I’m so open I’m sorry I’m sincere
see this technique, this fake apology, that’s called irony
but you’re too shallow for nuance
& if you want me six feet under at least that means I’m deep

Excerpt from one of my recent published poems ~ ‘WHY DO I ONLY INSTAGRAM DM YOU WHEN I’M HIGH?’ in Issue 7 of Gypsophila Magazine 🖤 Full poem in the issue or on my IG @/devonwebbnz

// WHY DO I ONLY INSTAGRAM DM YOU WHEN I’M HIGH? //

It is not actually the most constructive method of communication
because I am high
& all my words are…………. elsewhere
& it’s night-time & I’m tired
& I’m stuck in a dream of you all my friends call delusion
& everything is too big for my fingertips
I’m spinning again, you don’t catch me

// EVERY TIME YOU INSTAGRAM DM ME BACK I GET SCARED //

I am not ignoring you
I am doing the opposite of ignoring you (being scared of you)
& I have become somewhat ritualistic about our correspondence
like there is only one (1) hour of the day when it’s
spiritually appropriate to read your DMs &
I have to be entirely alone &
at least a little bit sacred
scared & sacred
whatever that means
as if I’ve ever not been paralysed by a paradox

THE POTATO CHIPS ARE A METPAHOR

The potato chips are a metaphor
for how I’ll be broke but
spend my last ten dollars on
making sure you’ve all got something to snack on
I come here
with a heart full of fondness & sincerity
just wanting to be your friend
(I mean
I know there’s been
complications
but we can’t help a racing heart)
(…or can we…?)
I am here to give
LOVE
&
SUPPORT
following you to the supermarket cos
I dig the energy
& could maybe use some
conversation
& …companionship…

I am on the outskirts of a conversation
that used to be behind my back about me
trying to get a word in edgeways but
I’ve already said too much
DO I MAKE YOU UNCOMFORTABLE?
& I actually have a lot of very valuable things to contribute
but you won’t give me the time of your day
so how am I supposed to adapt to it
I am trying to adapt to you
I am trying to figure out the dynamics
like I was doing
from the very start
when I fucked up by not giving my love
in its whole form
in its unhindered truth
I lost myself in the fantasy
& now I’m STUCK THERE
when I realise
that reality slipped out the door & locked it
& there is nothing to this anymore
but what could’ve been & what is
& those are two very different things

GOLDEN

I lay splayed out in this golden light
splattered, like a cracked egg
this boy rolled the biggest spliff I’ve ever seen
& I dunno I am just slipping to other places
very quickly

I lay naked on the rooftop of my soul
rendered entirely vulnerable
I am communicating directly // indirectly
& getting somewhere eventually

I look into this burning glow
& the horizon dips & teeters before my eyes,
reforming
encroaching like the tide

like tomorrow is only a breath away
& I have been ready for a while
I just didn’t realise I was waiting
for something specific, for this

I blink
& the world is new or
restored or
everchanging or
whatever I want it to be in this moment

I drink in this bright,
delirious transformation
& drip… & ooze… & sing
through the streets of this
city of ecstasy

folding // unfolding
before my very eyes
like a dream played backwards
so it gets more surreal as you wake up

it’s a familiar vision baby
but it’s never been so close
…almost
enough to touch…

it’s never been so tangible
& terrifying
& beautiful & blinding

like the sun is in my eyes babe
& all the stars too
the universe imploding,
& also growing bigger

when I look at you.

Two love poems in Issue 8 of @mosspuppymag.bsky.social 💚 This first one is inspired by Saltburn Summer 🔥

QUICKBURN

We hit the spliff real quick when our paths crossed
instantly lit, a match burning
right down
to the tip

I’d breathe you in till I choke
but somehow the smoke suits me fine
I’d sink into you till I drown
but if this is how I die lay me down

There aren’t enough hours in the day darling
there’s not enough vodka in the bottle
never enough sleep or
water in the spa pool

I feel like I’m losing time when
your hand’s not holding mine
every shutter I do not click
is a moment I mustn’t forget

It’s wetter here
in mid-Summer
where the sun seeks us out
into the corners of the morning

It’s warmer here
with our clothes lost to the garden
my skin a sin slipping
always into tomorrow

Where’s the water that won’t drain
where’s the taste we can savour
where’s the bottom of the glass &
where does it go deeper

Get me the kind of drunk
I’ll desperately want to remember
give me the kind of addiction
I will not choose to break

If Summer isn’t infinite
we have no time to waste
if there’s burning when we touch god
help me let the fire rage.

Two poems in Issue 4 of @anti-misogyny.bsky.social 🩵 This first one’s a bit lighter vibes but CW for the second one x #poetry #feminism #writing

FISHNETS
DEVON WEBB

Oh shit your fishnets are snagging on my jagged fingernail
Oh shit I have broken your fishnets with my jagged fingernail
Oh shit I have ended your relationship with a kiss
why is this man acting so god damn possessive
I thought everyone was polyamorous & bisexual these days
Baby you are too good
for this boring, entitled white man
baby you are too beautiful
to sit silent in his bland ugly shadow
I did not mean to be the catalyst for this unravelling
but then again I wish I could be everywhere all the time
to vibecheck these men & assess whether they’re worthy
to back them into a corner with the power of divine femininity

Honestly it makes me sick
that I cannot kiss every woman in the world
to see how these self-described ‘Daddies’ react
if you were truly Daddy you would protect our girls
I will protect our girls
I will hold her when she cries in the bathroom
I will roll her up a sesh
& recruit the homies for a spontaneous 1am rescue mission
I will hold men accountable until they choke on their own sins
I will not rest until they march off down the street in a childish rage
leaving her with strangers but joke’s on him
we are not strangers we are friends
& we will hold our women
we will love our women
we will protect our women
till every man responsible for his own empty hands
realises it was he who lost.

DYING IN THE LIVING ROOM WHILE MY PARENTS WATCH THE SIX O-CLOCK NEWS

Sometimes I wonder what option my generation has except like, die.
My mother says I shouldn’t say ‘shut the fuck up’ when Luxon says something on the
six o’clock news but mother we are literally watching the rise of neo-fascism &
I don’t know how we’re supposed to not be emotional I’m not gonna
sit here twiddling my fucking thumbs like a coward

I hope they all die
the rich white ignorant it’s them or literally fucking everyone so
let me light the god damn fire let me
howl while the wolves feast on their corpse
let me scream into the noise instead of the silence if it’s silent
it means there’s no space left for pain
& I would rather agonise than have nothing left to lose.

this poem means a lot to me…… maybe I’ll post my Instagram caption below…… but anyway it’s called // HOLD ME CLOSE (I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND) // & it was published in Issue 2 of @periwinklepelican.bsky.social 🩵

HOLD ME CLOSE (I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND)

Hold me close while the world ends
I don’t wanna be alone
I can’t follow you into the overwhelm
but we’ll entwine our fingers through the closing door

I should’ve been with you when you asked me to
I should’ve gotten the fuck out of bed &
put my outside clothes back on
I should’ve thrown myself into every moment we could ever lose

what is this black hole in the vicinity of your absence
the distance pulls my threads & I am all unravelling
the stars got misaligned when we separated
I should’ve swallowed my inner tongue & stayed the ride

cos from the moment you sat down beside me I’ve wanted to be with you
you’re like a bolt from the blue silver moon of the Pōneke night
you are a rhythm beginning
you are the starscape I’ve been trying to gaze

can I say something vulnerable
can I peer into your ether
can we explode & can we
do it all together

time is both precious thing
& ticking bomb
so why would I not stick around
to see it through

what if I stayed
tucked into your graces
what if I just
called myself home

can I hold you
can I hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand

An update on The Libel Situation if anyone would like more context ~ alt text in post. Thank you to everyone who’s supported me thus far 🖤

I just want to make some things abundantly clear while I wait on the very slow system to support me:

1. When I talk about ‘legal action’, this is not legal action against me, because I have not committed a crime. The crime in question is the publication & republication of slanderous libel, which I do not know the source of at this stage but seems connected to a wider sabotage campaign against me which I knew was happening but is apparently more extreme than I realised.

2. My goal with this action is to get retraction statements posted by the original publisher of the libel, as well as everyone who republished it, because deleting it doesn’t undo the harm done by these rumours which have been intentionally manufactured to damage my reputation & career. If I cannot resolve this with professional assistance I will file a lawsuit naming these parties. I will be compiling a document with all the evidence that these claims are illegitimate, so if anyone remains unsure of my innocence feel free to reach out directly so I can help explain the situation. Also, if anyone knows or hears anything please let me know, as it will help root out the primary instigator & seek resolution, reparations & the prevention of further harm.

3. PLEASE check the legitimacy of the source when you see serious claims like this: is there evidence? does the original poster have a website, masthead or identity attached? are they intentionally deleting comments coming to my support or pointing out the lack of evidence in an attempt to control the narrative? do you know the sender of the email that’s gone out to all my editors, have they signed it with their name, does it come from a real person in the literary community, is the time stamp suspiciously soon after the original post? is the person reposting the original post closely associated with a group of people who may have a personal grievance with me & have been causing me emotional harm for weeks? Might my identity as a transparent autistic woman who writes poetry about her feelings & calls out bullies & bullshit make me a vulnerable target? If you contribute to the spread of these rumours via gossip or speculation, are you directly enabling the malicious intent behind them? What further damage might that cause?

I have four poems in Issue 3 of Ode to Dionysus Journal, the theme of which was the tragedy of Orpheus & Eurydice so I channeled my yearning for musicians 🤪 Here are two of them, will post the other two soon x #poetry #writing #writersky

EVERY MEMORY

Every memory I remember gets stuck like future in my history
everything you said so shyly
went straight into me & around & back again
how many hours of sleep have I lost in the
shape made by your shadow
in all this empty space constantly expanding
as if you are a dream & I keep
waking up
how long do I have to hold on to stop falling

& what if I like being speechless
what if I like gasping into the sparkling air between us
what if I keep coming back to the start
& the middle & the middle & the lack of ending
what if I like being at the mercy of your rhythm

& what if an unwritten story is the best kind of promise
what if I prefer silence to disillusionment
or the unuttered harmony I keep on loop inside me
what if it’s not such a terrible thing that
I can’t forget you

what if my inability to say goodbye to you
is the birthplace of every poem that
pulls itself out of me
what if our agonising fate is in itself a masterpiece
shall we thank this beautiful doom of a destiny

shall I thank you for never breaking my heart only
making it beat right out of my body
oh how boring would it be not to love you
how tragic not to be stuck
in the flicker of the vision of us.

Some poems I had published in the WILD WOMEN issue of Astraea Zine ~ full issue linked below I wrote all of these in February, during the empowering phase of my crashout ✨ Thank you to the editor Emily for having me!

NEVER HOME

I think you need someone
who creates a quiet place for you to feel safe in
but I’m not a quiet person
I push boundaries

meanwhile I need someone
who makes me feel seen
but you can barely hold my gaze
you barely look at me

& when you leave,
you act like it changes something
like you were ever here
like you did anything but disappear

so I will close the door behind you
& you won’t look back
I hope you get home safely
but you were never home with me

DRIPS

Catching the drips
of everything that trickles down through the Odyssey
all that overflow & I’m not going anywhere I am not known & loved

this is a test of the human spirit: endurance
how much of me can you take
will you be there when I go out to sea & still when I wash up on the shore

will you nurse me back to royalty
when the wars have been lost & won
will you fall away or fill me up

push me out or carry me home?

UNEQUIVOCAL WOMAN

I am an exhilarating woman
an inevitable woman
I am unequivocal

try to keep me in your box
call me Pandora
call me guilty call me sinner

call me taboo
call me too much
call me unsubtle

call me devil call me beautiful
call me Satan’s angel
call me anything at all if I’m on your mind

cos that’s the thing about girls like me
we beg to be described
even if you can’t quite pin us down with your vocabulary

so easy to see but hard to define

// DROPPED OUT, LOCKED IN //

I’VE BEEN DROPPED OUT & I’VE LOCKED IN

I’VE LOST IT ALL & I HAVE MADE IT MINE AGAIN

I’VE HAD MY HEART MADE & BROKEN & LEARNT TO LET GO

I’VE RUN AWAY & I’VE COME HOME

I’VE BEEN SCAMMED & I’VE MADE BANK

I’VE FELT SO COLD & I’VE WARMED UP AGAIN

I’VE DROWNED IN THE SUN & I’VE DANCED IN THE RAIN

I’VE FOUND DEVASTATION IN ECSTASY & LOVE THROUGH PAIN

how many hours after I last saw him is it appropriate for me (27 year old woman) to message him (27 year old man) asking if he wants to hang out in Runescape….. #gamer #poetry

It’s lonely in Lumbridge without you
I don’t want to shear these sheep in solitude
I want to DM you with 2007 sincerity

3 QUICK QUESTIONS WITH DEVON WEBB

1. What inspires you to write poetry? What drives your creative process?

…….the Emotions. I suppose I use capitals in a universally relatable way but also an autistic way. My whole life, even now as an ‘adult’, I’ve struggled with emotional regulation and how to get them out of my body in a healthy way, and that coping mechanism for me is poetry. It’s a sort of therapy, concrete evidence that my feelings and identity have meaning in an often incomprehensible world, and while I write primarily for myself there’s a bonus when my work resonates with others and leads me to connect with people in such a vulnerable manner.

My five star review of the debut novel by @amykdebellis.bsky.social ~ an astonishing masterpiece! I also interviewed her for @circuslit.bsky.social which I’ll link below 💖

I'll preface this by saying that yes, Amy's my friend, & I'm so lucky for that because she blessed me with a complimentary copy of this book which travelled all the way from America to New Zealand in the most gorgeous packaging (stickers & bookmarks with hand-drawn designs & everything, as well as the sweetest little note) which retrospectively seems like a prelude to how above & beyond the mainstream industry this indie publication truly is. But I'm not rating this five stars because Amy's my friend. I'm rating this five stars because it's genuinely some of the best writing I've ever read, & such an impactful & timely read as a Gen Z woman.

God, I knew Amy was a good writer, but seeing it in novel form? With relatable characters on relatable journeys within a nihilism/hope dichotomy informed by the experience of trying to be a person & establish a future as the world degrades around you? It really is something else.

The writing & imagery in this book is so good that I can only make one comparison: to Markus Zusak (The Book Thief et al.), probably my favourite writer as far as technical craft goes. & I don't make this comparison lightly! But I really can't recall having my breath taken away by a metaphor the way it was when I read Zusak..... until now. & bonus points, it's a woman my own age, writing about relatable things in a present-day context & speaking to a universal, hard-to-articulate experience.

I strongly believe that Amy is a generational talent, & it kinda pisses me off that the 'Big 5' publishers would pass up on something like this while churning out unedited slop for the masses..... this deserves more! Amy deserves more! We deserve more! READ THIS BOOK, DAMMIT.

Just finished editing my February poems…… getting your heart broken on the first day of the month means you’ll write 32 poems that month apparently, & also get into the adult entertainment business?? #poet #writer
