GW has somehow managed to refine the style of design for their two big tentpole games into what I will now refer to as Patreon STL Aesthetic.

Getting some Catachan in there really adds to the look, I have a Cadian dude in my Catachan for similar reasons. Lovely looking stuff.

Behold, a bizarre proof of life. Depression and the world been kicking my ass, progress has been slow, but I've been working through my Ulthwe to add to my existing Alaitoc for 2nd edition. Some still WIP pics. #oldhammer #miniaturewargaming #warhammer40k

I am always astonished at how clean people managed to get their CGL plastics. I really struggle with that material, all my decades of resin, metal, and hard plastic have left me woefully unprepared. Looks really great.

Was even worse back in 2001. Its very much why generally we preferred a 1:50k or 1:25k model

The entire idea of having to get permission to use Tacticals as Intercessors just pisses me off. There's no reason not too other than gatekeeping bullshit.

It's the damage to the setting that hurts the most for me, because it cements that the 40k I spent over 30 years enjoying more for the character and depth of setting than anything else is well and firmly replaced by what is far softer, far plainer, and far less challenging material.

The Killing Fields is either one they put on the list with little knowledge of, or somebody is trying to make a statement in a really subtle way.

They are satisfying to use, probably more so in Alpha Strike. In Classic there is joy in rolling 15 attacks and then their locations, not so much the actual recording of them all. But I love them immensely and always feature at least one in my Clan Diamond Shark forces.

My personal favourite the mighty Piranha, 20t of machine gun rage and silly big eyes, such a handsome young lad. It's definitely not the best mech, but it's a genuine delight in tabletop play. Haven't managed to steel one in our RPG campaign yet.

Been doing a Battletech: A Time of War campaign this year, playing this time around. It's very crunchy, both mechanically and in terms of my very traumatised fomer POW stomping Word of Blake cultists underfoot in between self-medicating with alcohol. Lots of fun, enjoying a rules heavy system.

I don't even think it's a guaranteed L, a few of the right words and a hint of compromise and they'd take it, not like Labour is putting up any real resistance and they have the media on their side. But I can't fathom the tory mind, it's beyond my anarchist brain!

In my efforts to try and work through my depression and despair at my professional life, I am forcing myself to just apply a spot of paint on a few models as I am able. I'm very much hoping it stops me from feeling like I'm failing by doing nothing at all. 2026 is so good guys, love it!

Wave Serpent sprue was added later, the Falcon sprues remain unchanged since their first release, it absolutely counts. Though I just realised, no, the answer is probably Ezekiel, Angels of Death 1996 (they added a different backpack later)

devolutionary @devolutionary.bsky.social · 10/08/2026
If you exclude the single additional sprue they added into the box for weapons, it's the Falcon, December 1997. It was the Vyper before that up until this year (March 1997)

Dangit, I want to see my Ulthwe stuff painted, but I am very much in another painting lull right now, motivation is rock bottom from work stressors I suspect.

Digging through my pool of Finnish infantry for Flames of War, trying to figure how to build varied yet comprehensive teams for the infantry company I am working on. I have a great many excess dudes with sticky bombs and molotov bundles.

Cheers! Yeah they didn't get any releases in 2nd edition outside of Ahriman, there was only the single monopose sculpt from Rogue Trader, so you had to use generic marines instead. It is strange, I thought about slapping some headcrests on them, but I very much followed the queues from the 2e Codex.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

I have to force myself to use it at work, where there is an unspoken but very clear expectation that I must use it to some degree (programming, tech, telecomms, blah blah). It sucks, but I can't afford to undermine my job, not now.

The NZ/AU premium tax has my brain worked up, because those prices seemed fine to me. Then I remembered GW prices include shipping. Ouch.

How many times have they said that though? :D I'm sure they'll find a way to release new gang books, they always do!

I'm actually scared to find out what they have done to the rules, I've been avoiding it so I don't get sad. Once it's released, I'll have to bite the bullet and take a look. It was already such a good game, and GWs track record on rules changes recently has been so upsetting to me.

I have a similar response to 40k marines talking about the God-Emperor. No, it's just the Emperor, a man of great repute. That's why the Templars are considered nutters by the other Chapters. But the setting has been watered down into marketable soundbites unfortunately.

With Matariki tomorrow, I get an extra days head start on my winter week off. A necessary period to prevent me from inflicting my true nature on people at work, I intend to play a bunch of Epic, Battletech, and paint up some Ulthwe Eldar. And nobody else is home for 48 hours too? Delightful!

I am a long time Ultramarine fan. I completely agree. It's exhausting. The baseline should not be the exception all the damn time.

I love how often designs of the period boil down to "add some quarter globes and run some pipes between them", though once you start to model them you start to get fatigue from making the same damn thing on repeat with just a slightly different path every time. A solid recreation!

I love when I get spam mail calling me a pervert and they recorded what I'm looking at as though I should be afraid. Oh no, vintage miniatures, vtubers, and Yogscast videos, the shame! Honestly any porn is probably the lesser of incriminating evidence compared to the Hololive brain rot.

The truly unfortunate reality right now is that usage of AI coding tools and tokens is now a metric. I can't afford to not have my job, I have to look after my family. I very much feel like a failure, but that's corporate development life at the end of the day.

It's always a good reminder to myself that companies being shitty is a good enough reason to not buy their shit. I had very much been eyeing up a new Fender guitar, but I fucking ain't now.
