As always, @nolore.bsky.social has an accurate (and hilarious) description of Mark Carney's continued destruction: noraloreto.substack.com/p/icymi-this...
"He’s gutted environmental legislation, pushed through and fast tracked highly stupid projects that he needs us to believe are in the national interest, and now, he’s welcoming the vultures of global capitalism to come in and buy whatever they’d like. A move ostensibly done to solidify ourselves against the Americans, it will likely attract even more American investment in Canada and he will be laughing all the way to the bank (or wherever he sleeps at night)."

It makes sense that the organizers of an Onanism festival would invite Stew Young! #yyjpoli #crd #bcpoli
Picture of former Langford mayor Stew Young with two others in an indoor space at some kind of event.

The text reads: "This weekend, Brandy Gordon and I were invited to the Onan Festival with the Victoria Titans Club. Thank you for the warm welcome and a wonderful celebration."

Presumably, this post is trying to refer to "Onam", but "Onan" has *very* different connotations.

Cartoon. Shows a man dressed in a suit talking to three children. They are sitting around a fire and their clothes are tattered. In the background, the ruins of a city are visible.

The man says, "Yes, the planet got destroyed. But for a beautiful moment in time we created a lot of value for shareholders."

Who could forget when Chretien choked protestors, or when he introduced the infamous White Paper in 1969 that attempted to assimilate First Nations?
Famous picture of Chretien choking a protestor.

Also:

"...Chrétien introduced the 1969 White Paper, a proposal to abolish treaties between Canada and First Nations and related legislation including the Indian Act. Critics charged that the goal was to assimilate First Nations people into the general Canadian population. First Nations groups widely opposed the White Paper, and it was later abandoned. It was the 1969 White Paper that first brought Chrétien to widespread public attention in English Canada. At a press conference announcing the White Paper, Chrétien openly clashed with Indian activists with one First Nations woman asking Chrétien, "When did we lose our identity?", to which he replied: "When you signed the treaties", which prompted boos and jeers. Another woman from the Iroquois reserve at Brantford asked Chrétien, "How can you come here and ask us to become citizens, when we were here long before you?", noting the Crown had granted the Grand River valley to Joseph Brant in 1784, to which Chrétien had no reply. Cree activist Harold Cardinal attacked Chrétien and Trudeau for the White Paper in his bestselling 1969 book The Unjust Society, accusing them of "cultural genocide" against the First Nations. To counteract such criticism, Chrétien adopted an Inuk boy from a local orphanage during a 1970 visit to the Northwest Territories."

Conspiracy theorist Lia Fraser of Victoria BC deposited the following mental diarrhea in the Times Colonist Letter to the Editor section. Mentions Orwell's 1984, 'living in a prison', 'dystopia', and vague fear-mongering about elected officials becoming dictators, all due to 15-minute cities.
Conspiracy theorist Lia Fraser of Victoria BC deposited the following mental diarrhea in the Times Colonist Letter to the Editor section.

Title: Pushing us toward 15-minute cities

Letter text: "Re: 'Enough is enough, Saanich is ruined,' letter, April 2.

The letter asks: 'Did Saanich council give any thought to this (construction) when they allowed it all to happen at the same time?'

I think they knew exactly what they were doing. It’s happening in Victoria as well. We live in a sea of orange, made up of construction barricades, orange cones and ditches.

So what’s really going on?

I believe they are busy creating the infrastructure for their '15-minute cities' initiative, in which we will be controlled and watched. Big time.

Here’s a definition of infrastructure:

1. 'An underlying base or foundation, especially for an organization or system.

2. The basic facilities, services and installations needed for the functioning of a community or society, such as transportation and communications systems, water and power lines, and public institutions including schools, post offices and prisons.'

Yes, we will feel like we are in a prison. A dystopian one.

And it’s not just happening in Victoria and Saanich. It’s happening all over in cities in North America.

George Orwell’s 1984 comes to mind.

We, the citizens, are not powerless. Indeed, collectively we are powerful.

Write your elected officials, whether locally, provincially or federally, and give them your opinion on 15-minute cities.

Remember, they need us to get elected.

At least that’s the way it is now."

"We make our ravioli the way we made BC summers – hot and dry" I spent several hours on this roughly three years ago. Time well spent.
Satirical food label for a can of ravioli – "Ravi-oli" – featuring a picture of Ravi Parmar with a white chef's hat. Filled with humorous text:
• The label is "PC – Premier's Choice"
• The colour scheme is NDP orange and a light blue
• Tagline: "We make our ravioli the way we made BC summers – hot and dry"
• "New Flavour! Kinda..." "Baloney + Spin-nach"
• "try our other flavours – Irish Coddle, Deep-fried Tofu, & Brown Pablum"
• "Instructions: open can, let contents dry in the sun for a few months. Heat in over at 260º for 10 hours, or util it catches fire, at which point it's a part of life, you're on your own, and we are under no legal obligation to help you."
• Includes French translation of instructions for authenticity
• Includes Nutrition Facts table. Product is extremely high in trans fats, cholesterol, sodium, and contains very little vitamins.
• Includes ingredients in both French and English: "bovine faecal excretions, 'natural' gas, lies, mucin proteins, food-grade grease, disdain for the poor"

Oh look, it's Ren Louie playing his old card routine. Mr. Louie is attempting to act out a real-life sequel to Lynne Reid Banks' famous children's novel, except the focus shifts from furniture to textiles (pockets).
Stupid opinion letter in the Times Colonist. It reads:

"Re: “Langford returns fire in war of words with Pacific FC,” Sept. 21.

The City of Langford released a combative statement that could damage its relationship to Pacific FC. The correspondence should not have been made public.

Although the city took that opportunity to raise concerns with the content of the agreement and the finances between the two entities, they undermined the charitable work that PFC does for the entire Capital Regional District.

By failing to make mention of the important role that Pacific FC plays in bringing our community together, they could leave Indigenous nations, organizations and advocacy groups out in the cold. Allowing this team be relocated would be tremendously devastating, especially ahead of Truth and Reconciliation Day.

On game day, we all wear our purple and white soccer jerseys and cheer our hearts out for the team we all know and love. The immense platform is not lost on Pacific FC, either.

That is why their alternative 2024 Indigenous resilience jerseys not only brought people together, they also ensured the proceeds went to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society, among other groups.

In the article, “Island’s Pacific FC unveils Resilience jersey benefiting Indigenous groups,” Paul Beirne, managing director of Pacific FC, states: “This jersey represents our commitment to using our platform to work towards a better future for Indigenous youth in our community.”

I encourage the City of Langford to pause and reconsider their stance on this matter.

They should take the time to understand the number of unintended consequences that could impact Indigenous peoples, among others.

Ren Louie

Dale Hitchcox gets it
Letter from Dale Hitchcox to the Times Colonists' letters section:

"Better to tax wealth than to tax work

The densification advocated by Saanich council will not solve its unaffordable housing problem.

It will just create more unaffordable housing — the same thing that has happened in Vancouver, New York, Tokyo and every other city in the world, including undesirable ones.

Unaffordable housing is caused by inequality, not lack of density.

Affordable housing for the working class is an aberration from the historical norm. Most of the working class was affluent enough to buy homes between 1945 and 1980.

During this period, Western governments diverted wealth from the rich to the working class to make communism less desirable to workers.

Since 1980, that “New New Deal” has dissipated, and the global wealth ratio has reverted to the norm, where the rich accumulate and hold the wealth, and the working class fall behind.

The only real solution for the working class is for governments to flatten inequality by taxing wealth by a greater proportion than work. (It’s presently the opposite of that.)

Dale Hitchcox

"The news bears responsibility for the fact that people are left with the impression that public safety decisions in our society are made far more democratically, and far more on merit, than they are. If the news focused more on the root causes, power relationships, and trends that contextualize the causal chain for any news event, we would fall for political deception less. We would be better able to evaluate the claims of politicians and put less faith in this of that individual person in power. We would be less hyper-focused on electoral politics and more interested in organizing to build collective relationships, economic arrangements, and institutions that change the underlying context within which any public official must operate."
