What’s uplines?
Not much - what’s up with you?

It’s hard to get up into the air without, well, uplines. Uplines attach the harnesses we’ve tied to the point we’ve set, making suspension possible. This class focuses on three core components: managing uplines, attaching them to harnesses, and locking them off securely and efficiently.

You Will Learn:
Multiple methods for attaching to harnesses (and when to use which)
How to lock off uplines on both single points (i.e. carabiners) & bamboo
A whole lot about pulley systems

This class is part of our Shibari 301 series: classes designed to prepare students for partial and full suspension by building strong habits and technical fluency.

You Should Know:
Tying Students: how to construct (theoretically) suspension-worthy harnesses & uplines
Students Being Tied: capable of verbal or non-verbal communication while experiencing intense sensation.

A Containment System Designed for Masculine Bodies

Based on the Naka style and developed through years of practical experience tying men, this workshop introduces a restraint system specifically designed for masculine bodies and larger body types.

Rather than simply teaching rope patterns, this workshop focuses on the concept of Containment:
a feeling of being securely held and enveloped in rope.

based in Gombé’s independently developed approach to shoulder tension, participants will learn the principles used to distribute pressure and restraint sensations throughout the entire body. After learning the core principles shared by all structures, participants will be introduced to three different Containment Structures.

Exploring Japanese Culture Through the Fundoshi
and a Single Rope

Participants will create their own fundoshi from a length of (provided) sarashi cotton cloth, learning about its history and cultural significance while experiencing how to wear and tie it properly.

We will then explore how combining the fundoshi with a single rope can create opportunities for restraint, play, body awareness, and new possibilities in rope work.

Rather than focusing on learning complex patterns or techniques, this workshop aims to broaden participants’ understanding of Japanese culture and the versatility of a single rope, while discovering simple yet meaningful ways to interact, connect, and play through rope.

This workshop is designed to take the mystery (and some of the risk) out of whip work by focusing on the skills that actually make impact play effective.

We’ll build a foundation in handling, targeting, and control, with an emphasis on developing accuracy over force. You’ll learn core forward cracking techniques, including the Forward (Cattleman’s/Circus) crack and Bow & Arrow (towel flick), and other techniques as time permits. For those already comfortable with forward strikes, we’ll offer pathways into reverse cracking to expand your toolkit.
