Grok statistically may have been involved somewhere in events that caused civilian casualties, including the Minab girls’ school.

Using Grok to Bomb Iran and the Twisted Dream of Causing Death Without 'Killing'
The Trump administration's haphazard "AI-first"approach to warfare has already killed countless innocents and is setting the stage for a world where no human is ever to blame for the deaths.

But the real treasure is that his net worth growth was 175% of the total US economic growth in the first half of 2026. If you believe net worth growth is really reward for economic contribution, then the conclusion is that everyone else on average must have reduced the economy by ~300B.

Fun fact: Elon Musk’s net worth growth was equal to about 13% of the total US economic growth in 2025. US economic policy isn’t broken at all.

Interesting admission by Google’s AI: “You are entirely correct. I am trained to remain non-partisan and present multiple viewpoints on political topics, even when one side has significantly more empirical support for a specific outcome.”

A new term to describe when anti vax activists dismiss negative results on the connection between vaccines and a broad spectrum of harms: “Genetic Bulverism” e.g., “Wrong. This study must have been funded by pharmaceutical companies”.

He did start with camps. Immediately after taking power in 1933, the Nazis established Dachau - a concentration camp for communists, socialists, and other political rivals.

Has anyone noticed a real uptick in anti #socialist rhetoric on social media recently? Slippery slope “they want to take away everyone’s wealth” / North Korea, poisoning the well “socialist are stupid and envy driven”, and pure hatred.

When people talk about taxing billionaires, it's really about reversing a shift toward policies that reward wealth over work. In systems built this way, scarcity of basic necessities becomes a tool to force productivity—punishing those who don't / can’t work rather than rewarding those who can.

MAGA and efforts like Project 2025 mirror classic authoritarian playbooks: define an internal enemy (immigrants / the left), weaken independent institutions and push policies that concentrate power and wealth. We're witnessing an accelerating shift toward an economy and state that serve fewer people

I can't overstate how useful modern chatbots are for building apps and services. In the last week it helped create 3 custom applications - work and hobby related - that I would have never had the time to do and/or would have been too expensive for me to justify someone else doing over a month.

I’m training for a double centennial in July (Seattle to Portland) and one amazing thing is how drastically appetite changes transitioning from a sedentary lifestyle to burning 3000-4000 kCals a week biking 150 miles and climbing 4000-6000 feet. You crave and enjoy simple foods way more.

It's because MAGA relies on an illusion of absolute control. Their colleagues in the senate broke that illusion, but that didn't stop Mike Johnson from reasserting that illusion within MAGA's arm in congress.

Yeh I agree. I made this argument many times to my colleagues but they seemed more upset they didn’t receive the same type of reaction as they did on Xitter - which usually were more flattering. It’s extremely important we can functionally talk to people who feel negatively impacted by our work.

I always feel like those moments are opportunities to educate about logical fallacies - but I’m into that sort of thing. But yeh: I told enough of our colleagues not to take it personally, but local optima. 🤷

Devon Hjelm @devhje.bsky.social · 29/03/2026
The most interesting thing to me about “TDS” is that it’s a form of “bulverism” - a logical fallacy where someone doesn’t respond to an argument - eg a criticism about Trump - by attacking the reasons why the person makes that argument. It’s a very weak but very popular fallacy.

Devon Hjelm @devhje.bsky.social · 29/03/2026
The strongly-emotional aggressive and combative anti-AI reactions seem to have eased off quite a bit. A lot of our colleagues were scared off unfortunately and have returned to the red-pill platform.

When I see the utter contempt Trump and MAGA show for political rivals, it reminds me often of the primary architect for this type of scorched earth politics. Newt Gingrich. Oh and he also historically relied on ultra wealthy mega donors including *drum roll* billionaire Zionist Adelson.

That's not surprising. "JAQing off" (a.k.a. loaded questions or sea-lioning). If it's one thing the internet has done it's taught people to be *really* good at logical fallacies.

That said, I recognize the very difficult situation Jews find them selves in: being Jewish - or even defending the existence of Israel - is treated by many as supporting extreme Zionism. But I also say it's fair to say that Bibi's party is failing "the dream" of ending antisemitism.

Devon Hjelm @devhje.bsky.social · 20/03/2026
Well, I'm sure a lot of people do it in bad faith, so it would be partially understandable if you responded as if I were doing so. That said, I'm thankful that you 1) caught yourself that this wasn't necessarily asked in bad faith and 2) provided examples which helped me understand precisely.

Devon Hjelm @devhje.bsky.social · 20/03/2026
I’m curious about the nature of the antisemitism as I’m not exposed to it and I’m assuming this is on Xitter, which I’m not on. Is it about Jews in general or Israel? There’s also an increase of very troubling extreme rhetoric the other way - implying criticizing Israel is antisemitic.

🤷 it’s simple: correctly identify my point without committing a strawman - casting it as some extreme position like “confirm everyone” and you get more conversation. Don’t, and you learn nothing and your habits don’t change.

Devon Hjelm @devhje.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
I think I’ve had enough strawman arguments for one day, thank you. If it can correctly identify my main point - it was fairly clear not what you said - then I’d be happy to engage again.

That’s not a “what-if”: that is how Trump responds to rejected cabinets. And it’s worked in practice for him. Gaetz -> Bondi Stephanik -> Waltz Nesheiwat -> Means Yes and even Noem -> Mullin He has consistently sent someone as bad as or worse.

Fetterman’s gap from progressives is real, but I’d 100% rather have a right leaning progressive than the alternative - someone on the far far right. Fetterman still maintains progressive positions and purity tests don’t fix the core problems coming from the far right.

One of the dumbest things MAHA supports is the gutting of public research funding. The reasoning is that science needs to be realigned along cultural axes they identify with, and away from “deep state and corporate” influences. This reflects a complete misunderstanding of how public science works.

I worry mostly that they’ve handed ACs a whip, and there’s going to be a lot of variance on how well that whip is used. Some will surely use it badly. But again, the review problem has been getting worse and worse, so it’s good they’re trying something. I hope it leads to more effective changes.

Yeh I have mixed feelings. Punishing people who ultimately are reviewing for free (there’s only a small chance the average paper gets accepted) seems like the wrong approach. There will be resentment. But the review problem has only gotten worse and if it’s not fixed there’s no point.
