One of our favorite things about Determinate Secure Packages is that adoption doesn't involve refactoring or building out an integration. You swap out a flake reference to get started and `nix flake update` to pull security fixes. That's really it 📦 🔐 ❄️ 🚀 determinate.systems/secure-packa...

Are you running the latest version of Determinate Nix, v3.6.8? Simply run `determinate-nixd version` to find out and `sudo determinate-nixd upgrade` if a new version is available. More info in our docs here: docs.determinate.systems/determinate-...
Screenshot of a terminal window where the user ran `determinate-nixd version` and Determinate Nix responded with the version numbers and a message that a new version is available, with instructions on how to upgrade.

warning: Performing inefficient double copy of ...what?? Determinate Nix 3.6.2 shows you where you're slowing down Nix by needlessly copying your source again. And guess what: Determinate #Nix 3.6.2 has more improvements just like this: determinate.systems/posts/change...

Okay, okay, I know: *dozens of us* grok set theory. It's fun, but ∆∅ε! They doesn't belong in the Nix interface. And now they're gone: Determinate Nix 3.6.2 uses /words/, not symbols, in the `nix profile` commands. This and lots more in Determinate #Nix 3.6.2: determinate.systems/posts/change...

ERROR: a 'aarch64-linux' with features {} is required to build ... BUT WHY? Determinate #Nix now tells you why you're depending on a different system's packages. And it isn't the only error we made easier to fix... this and more in Determinate Nix 3.6.2: determinate.systems/posts/change...

"Import from derivation: such a nice footgun." -- Graham, 2022. IFD can help, but it's slow. Determinate #Nix can show you when happens, so you can get rid of it. Even more observability and performance work in Determinate Nix 3.6.2: determinate.systems/posts/change...

Nix turns 22 today! 🎉🎂 Since its first commit in 2003, Nix has grown from an academic idea into the foundation of some of the most powerful software systems. At DetSys, we’re ensuring its future remains bright—working alongside Nix’s creator, Eelco Dolstra, to push the technology forward. 🚀

Thank you PackagingCon for having us to talk about #Nix, the long road to flakes ❄️ and FlakeHub.com. @grahamc.com's full talk will be available on YouTube soon 🚀
A slide with a dark purple background, and the text has a quote in italics bold "Flakes are stable" with a heart-on-fire emoji. The quote is attributed to Determinate Systems, 2023, since the upstream project has not yet committed to stable Flakes -- but we have. In the corner of the screen is Graham on stage, presenting on the benefits of flakes and why they are the future of Nix.
