"In the coquí, I see several motifs that are used throughout Taino art and design. Some of these motifs may not have originated with observing specifically the coquí and could be just reflections of the motifs' existence throughout nature, which itself is a theme found within the Taino worldview."

6/ Why the black bull? My Popi was born next to Bosque Estatal de Toro Negro in Puerto Rico and died by Toro Bayou in Louisiana, where I was born. I now live close to Toro Negro, where countless generations of my ancestors were born, lived, died. It's not a full circle, it's a spiral 🌀

I saw Chagall's The Birthday when I visited MoMA on my first visit to New York when I was 18 & immediately fell hard for it. I got the poster from the MoMA shop & I had it for manyyy years until it got ruined in a move. I still sit & contemplate this piece like once a month. It'll never not linger.

Of all the movement therapies I’ve practiced over the last couple decades, the years I spent in Alexander Technique has been the most valuable to me. Being able to release muscle tension when my disabled body is bracing and spasming is SUCH A GIFT. Anyone know any AT practitioners in PR?

Using art to navigate grief is such a gift to us humans. My cousin was in a tragic accident this week and passed yesterday. I spent the day making this piece while holding her in my heart, letting her story settle into each part of it, saying goodbye from afar. Descansa en paz, prima 🖤
