A bit of this, a bit of that, but most of all, let’s keep things just that little bit kinder here. Left-leaning politics. London.

Kemi Badenoch: What I said was not what you heard, and what you heard was not what I meant. If you don't understand that, that's your fault, not mine. I am always right. Put another way: I am never wrong.

No one on You and Yours mentioned the quality of the food in Lidl and Aldi. Do people really not care about ultra-processed food? When will we understand that it’s not just about price? Surely what we’re actually putting into our bodies should matter as much as what it costs.

Does Reform UK tend to poll better when it dominates the political conversation, or can saturation coverage actually coincide with its support softening?

This guy is talking nonsense. On the one hand, he’s going to cut red tape; on the other, local authorities will still have planning approval. So the Tories remain the party of NIMBYs. #r4today

So the Reform UK criticism of Question Time goes something like this: Fiona Bruce asks Suella Braverman a difficult question. Apparently that’s unfair. Then they tell us how well Braverman answered it. Isn’t that exactly what’s supposed to happen? #BBC #QuestionTime #ReformUK

Likewise. On reflection, I think this is where we differ slightly. I actually find it useful hearing pro-Brexit MPs discussing the EU. They may believe Britain is better off outside it, but sometimes hearing the arguments they make does a pretty good job of making the case for being in!

Minutes before a representative from Reform UK was due to appear on LBC with Iain Dale, they pulled out. #LBC #runningscared

The piece was about the PM’s speech and options for our future relationship with the EU. We heard from him, the public in his constituency and two different perspectives. That’s not gutter journalism, nor were they leading questions.

94% of adults still use the BBC every month, which is phenomenal. Producing content that’s in demand around the world, bringing in commercial revenue to the BBC and adding to Britain’s soft power, surely is a good thing.

Good point that a guest may not ultimately take the position anticipated. But the BBC can’t dictate or necessarily predict how an interviewee will respond. Nor does due impartiality require every interview to be matched by someone expressing the opposite view. None of that makes “gutter journalism”.

Jack Hosier @despol.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I’m struggling to see the “gutter journalism” here. Graham Stringer is a longstanding pro-Brexit Labour MP, so if WATO is discussing the possibility of rejoining the EU, he’s an entirely legitimate person to interview.

That’s not what I said. I didn’t suggest the State Pension makes people rich. I’m talking about pensioners as a cohort, many of whom have occupational pensions, property wealth and low housing costs. Poor pensioners need support, but that doesn’t justify a triple lock for everyone.
020
Jack Hosier @despol.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
State Pension isn’t intended to make anyone rich. The question is whether all pensioners, including the many who are comfortably off with occupational pensions and other assets, need earnings-linked increases funded by working-age taxpayers. Poorer pensioners absolutely should receive targeted help.

Jack Hosier @despol.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
For many baby boomers, it matters. The me, me, me generation who climbed the ladder and pulled it up behind them just get richer and richer. They are very happy for people of working age to fund their generous triple lock increases.

The timing of the Championship extending its play-offs to 8th place is interesting. Relegate City with a huge points deduction, give them another in the Championship, and even finishing 8th could still give them a route straight back up. It could all work out to be very convenient for City. #r4today

The racist villagers of Piddington seem to have a rather inflated view of the village: no shops, no café, no pub. Why exactly do they think it would be a place of interest for anybody to go? They may be boring fucks, but not everybody is.

I understand what you’re saying, but we shouldn’t underestimate the pull in London of free entry to world-class museums and galleries. That could save a family of four around £500, so set against a tourist tax that many other cities and countries already impose, London still looks pretty good value.
111
Jack Hosier @despol.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
I really don’t think a modest tourist tax in London is unreasonable. Visitors get free access to world-class museums and galleries, so even with a small levy London would still offer great value for money and remain hugely attractive to tourists. #BBCPM

The Cosby Show was groundbreaking. I didn’t say C4 had to be edgy or high-minded all the time, simply that it was created to show programmes and serve audiences not catered for elsewhere. That had to be balanced against commercial reality, though the funding model was different then.
