The story so far.

The first gods, after arranging the entire universe, fell into chaos and war. Entire worlds were destroyed or forever changed. In the end, none of them survived. Our particular planet, once the site of some long-forgotten battle of interstellar deities, now sits at the center of of some yet-to-be-determined story arc. It’s comprised of many temperate forests trying to flourish amidst dying civilizations.

In more recent years, inhabitants have been drawn to particular sites of power scattered across the planet, choosing to venerate and even worship varied natural forces as their new gods. Concepts are now personified. Universal laws are given shrines.

This is where our worldbuilding continues...

Among the innumerable first gods rivalry, ambition, and defiance burned brightly. Their war turned stars to ash. Their battles shattered the firmament. In the end, none survived. There was no victor. This world remains, not because it was meant to, but because it was overlooked—a battlefield turned into a home, a fragment left behind. The gods are gone, their war long ended. Yet some still search the heavens, waiting for the day when their names are spoken once more.

Amidst an aging yellow star beginning to transition to a red giant, 2 of its outer planets remain temperate and habitable, one with dense forests and dying civilizations.

The first one I made is probably still my favorite of the group. The Vishadah takes no actions on its turn. It merely moves. Slowly. It simply wanted to be closer to someone else. Except it was a walking Sickening Radiance. Each of The Gloom worked very well with all the others. Stacking = death.

dim, greenish light in a 5-foot radius. This light makes it
I impossible for the creature to benefit from being invisible. The
1 light and any levels of exhaustion caused by this aura go away 1
if the creature is destroyed.
Amorphous Emotion. The Vishada has advantage to avoid being grappled, stunned, or knocked prone.
Gloom Immune. All creatures of the gloom are immune to the

Located, appropriately enough, in the dread domain also called The Gloom, the creatures were physical embodiments of negative emotional states. I named them after Sanskrit words for their appropriate feelings. Duhkha - Grief Nirasana - Spite Trishna - Longing Vihimsa - Malice Vishadah - Depression

Trishna
The trishna is the physical embodiment of longing and
desire. It constantly thirsts yet is never quenched. Ever
jealous and always possessive, the longer it is allowed
to cling to a creature, the harder it is to ever break free.
A creature always views the trishna in one of two
ways. Either it looks like a perfected version of the thing
they want most in life or it appears as something utterly
repulsive. Both iterations have the same effect. A
creature within its grasp can rarely look away.
Vihimsa
The vihimsa is a creature of pure malice and cruelty. It
appears in the form of a storm of elemental energies
with angry, vengeful eyes staring out in every direction.
It seeks out any and all creatures that appear weak or
broken and its end goal for any within its grasp is
complete destruction.
So intent is the vihimsa on spreading its poisonous
influence on others that it will often go out of its way to
target as many different creatures as possible in a short
period of time. This is seen as a fun game to the vihimsa
and a perfectly adequate way to pass the time.
Vishadah
The vishadah is the physical embodiment of depression.
In its natural form, it is little more than an amorphous
blob of sentient emotions, devoid of purpose. Whenever
a creature happens to come near enough to be detected
by its tremorsense, the vishadah locks on and begins
lumbering toward this potential new friend. From that
day on, the vishadah will always know the location of
that target, so long as it is on the same plane of
existence.
The form it takes upon encountering a sentient
creature is a distorted self-image of how the creature
believes itself to look.
A vishadah looks only for companionship in a lost and
lonely world. It does not realize its own destructive
nature and cannot willingly acknowledge it is doing
anyone harm. Once it senses a creature, it will begin a
slow pursuit to find it. Though many have devised ways
of escaping or staying out of harm’s reach, the only true

At the end of a fairly long spreadsheet process with 5 different sheets, you end up with something along these lines. The more people involved, obviously the fewer % each will likely get, but you're sharing the workload. It's a win-lose in that regard, but fair.

I started noticing a few markers, did a bit of fact checking, and was appalled. Here's what I found:

It’s wild to me that we’re living in a society where:

Rounding up people, separating them from families, and shipping them off is not only defensible, but required.
Individuals can be snatched purely based on how they look.
Grabbing the wrong person is fine, so long as it’s “close enough.”
Enforcement to prevent escalation leads toescalation—an Intended Consequence.
Habeas Corpus is declared irrelevant.
Severe financial penalties are promised for officials who don’t assist in the arrests.
No jury trials or testifying of the accused are allowed.
Compensation is given to the arresting officer regardless of guilt or innocence, sometimes including a promotion.
Aiding a targeted individual could result in fines or jail time.
Affidavits, not judicial warrants, are used.

And they tell me that I’m actually reading about the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. But I point out the window and say,
“It’s the same damn thing.”
