Mamdani is winning the midterms (that he’s not even in) just by providing the starkest of contrast to the worst pres in U.S. history. 🤩 🥰 vs 🤢😱 We’ll take what NYC is having, thanks!

They knew exactly what they were doing. They’re not the only ones choosing to actively court controversy* for buzz— all press is good press, etc. Converse (Nike), AE, Zara, Balenciaga, Novig, Callaway— off the top of my head. * EVIL - but I imagine some tell themselves it’s just marketing math.

In my Mormon naïveté it took me ~two decades to realize she was queer and forced out of BYU because of it. But I did know there was something tangible in the illumination of the women she shared with us — Annie Dillard, Terry Tempest Williams, Dar Williams, Willa Cather. RIP Annie Dillard.

My freshman Honors English class was my illuminating ‘tree with the lights in it,’ introducing me to A Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, which itself, is like the stream that is new each time you return to it. My professor was a queer academic trying to fit into the BYU box— but her class was expansive. 1/2

Annie Dillard’s Pilgrim at Tinker Creek - the version we read in my freshman English class.

Sometimes kids have more friends than their parent has bandwidth!

Words calling for peace vs bombs — but we can’t tell which is the more harmful. 🤷‍♀️

Does your library have Hoopla? They use a concurrent borrowing model (i.e. let’s everyone access at once and charges the library accordingly, so you can borrow popular books right away. vs Libby treats the digital asset like a physical book and patrons wait to borrow)

😳 I was once woken up by an airline radio mayday alert. So alarming and so confusing. I figured out that my son’s Flight Radar24 app on my phone had a preset sound for the notification if any crash occurred at the nearby airport. A small private plane had crashed during landing.

Exactly. Which is why I actually didn’t deconstruct in college (at BYU), but I did after I left Utah.

Is the Amazon list workable? There are a few food items that arrive overnight, but I want to be sure the delivery is accurate and accessible.

OMG, exactly. I went on a *blind* date to nutty putty caves.

I started hrt which has helped most of the peri-m symptoms, but now I get a delightful nausea migraine as a heads up just before each cycle. So fun!

Anyway to have the Nov/Dec issue come under wraps so that you can start a gift subscription and discreetly receive an issue to wrap for the holiday?

Calling JD a hillbilly is offensive to Appalachia and the holy memory of Dolly Parton.

For teaching religious literature? 🧐 Maybe she doesn’t realize it’s an analytical approach with a cultural/religious lens.

But only because we made them free! Public libraries were a radical idea. When we try to invent new free spaces and services today, they are rejected as unprofitable or socialist.

Browsing LinkedIn for work yesterday, I learned that a couple acquaintances I know through liberal, science-interested circles have new positions — at the power company and gas company. But I can’t talk because I work in development (science funding) and was checking power and gas sources.

I do appreciate the satisfaction that comes with mRNA vaccines turning out to be the literal cure for cancer, while maga peptides are making people sick. Can’t feel smug about the preventable diseases roaring back— but still, science wasn’t wrong. Follow the science!

As a nonprofit professional, it makes me crazy when corporations ask their customers to “round up,” then takes the credit for charitable giving. It makes me think LESS of your organization, not more.

As someone who wrote a sappy poem for the 10th grade poetry unit inspired by the green patchwork of the English countryside from the plane— I have to agree.

Of course, this doesn’t capture internal dialogue, but pretty interesting research and it helped her to follow the thread back and see where her nervous system took an abrupt turn that sent interpersonal interactions off the rails.

Desert Prose @desertprose.bsky.social · 01/08/2026

I read a memoir (What My Bones Know) in which the author worked with a psychology researcher who recorded every session and analyzed the metadata and progression of the emotional response. It was extremely insightful for her to precisely identify the trigger to unpack the underlying beliefs.

Desert Prose @desertprose.bsky.social · 30/07/2026

Truly a prophetess. Her sensitivity went beyond empathy. She could name what didn’t yet have a name. She cared enough to communicate, not just through art and inspired prose, but also through primary song, so even little children would learn that they are loved and how to extend grace to others.

Dying! I was trying to send a link to a piece of nude artwork in FB Marketplace to my sister-in-law via Messenger and accidentally “listed it” on my timeline. 💀

Dramatic two-tone purple/lavender woodblock print of a reclining nude woman with a potted plant strategically placed in the foreground.

ICE has STOLEN an Indigenous Tribal ELDER from NM, who was on her way to CHEMO. She stopped for gas, ICE then approached her, she showed all of her proper, legal documentation. They still stole her away. They're denying her of life saving CHEMO. When will it be enough. #ShedShed #ViVaHerAlliance

“Equally guilty” is used here to dismiss the seriousness of any of the above guilt. 😑 — Not to mention “hysteria.”

I do think it pulled the cover back. Now when nothing happens, people are noticing nothing happen. We might still have yet to see the delayed repercussions.

I’ve started to experience this type of migraine in perimenopause and thought the flu might be coming on a handful of times before I put it all together and figured out it was a cycle-related migraine. Thanks for connecting the dots w/ the hand weakness! I’ve had that symptom a few times.
