Here’s my cameo (for now?) reappearance in the pages, or at least on the website, of the Post:a look at the big-play performance Sunday by the Commanders’ defense. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2026/...
washingtonpost.com
The Commanders couldn’t buy a turnover. Bring on the Super Bowl champion.
Washington upset Seattle with the help of two interceptions and a tone-setting fumble recovery.

WAS G Lucas Patrick, filling in at center, said to be questionable with an ankle injury. Injuries mounting at vulnerable positions for the Commanders, but a really solid first half, capped by a 57-yard FG as time expired for a 17-10 lead

Chenal said by the team to have suffered a neck injury

Des Bieler @desbieler.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Scary-looking injury for Leo Chenal, who had to be stretchered off, followed by a good-looking SEA drive led by Darnold. WAS was already missing Luvu and is now even more thin at LB (altho backup Joshua Josephs did make a nice stop on this drive).

Des Bieler @desbieler.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Exact start WAS would want -- a couple of good defensive stops, including a turnover deep in SEA territory, then a TD on a short, calm Mariota pass to White. We have a game, folks. At least for now.

Lower bowl mostly filled, if plenty of apparent seats n the upper tiers, as the Commanders run onto the field before kickoff against the Seahawks. I’m here helping @postsports.bsky.social cover the game, which I hope is a good one!

Was thinking that the Finals presented a perfect opportunity for Dolan to bury the hatchet w/Oak and invite him back to MSG, but if Oak can watch NY win a chip in person at San Antonio instead, I'm sure he'll take it.

Well, this certainly doesn’t diminish my man-crush on OG Anunoby. Obviously tops the Allan Houston shot against Miami, which previously was the most excited I’ve ever been to watch a Knicks win

As some have noted in the comments to this post, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is the obvious answer. And it's the most correct one! Not only did it end the hair metal era and usher in grunge, it's a song that simply could not have been a chart-topping hit any earlier in music history.

Exquisitely timed ping, given that I just recently was forced into hoping that someone out there might appreciate something I once wrote. Ideally, it would have been a person in position to make my experience of unemployment mercifully brief, but hey, I’ll take it. Hope you all are in fine fettle.

Was going through some materials accumulated over my many years at The Washington Post, and I was struck by these words of wisdom from the legendary Eugene Meyer, particularly (in light of recent events) the fifth graf.
The fifth paragraph reads: “The newspaper’s duty is to its readers and to the public at large, and not to the private interests of its owners.”

also, LOL to that throw going down in the play-by-play as a mere 14-yard TD pass. He chucked from the 40, off his back foot while under intense pressure

Thanks to NBC for finally showing the coverage on Kmet after like 5 replays of the pass (which definitely deserved some replays, to be clear), b/c it sure looked like he MUST have pushed off. But actually, not really! Just some fairly standard hand-fighting, w/Kmet the stronger dude

OMG, that was a crazy TD pass. Sometimes, the regular view you get on TV (i.e., not seeing the whole field) adds to the excitement, b/c there was no way to know who or what Caleb was throwing to there

I think that if the ball had popped out there when Cooks went to the ground with it, it would have been considered an incompletion. So he could be considered to have not completed the process of the catch when McMillian grabbed it, making for an interception. Just going by the NFL's rules, folks.
