Went to the Cleveland Museum of Art and took a bunch of really bad photos of one of the really cool installations that @theowatson.bsky.social and his studio Design I/O worked on. It was super fun to play with. The other installation was down for maintenance. (I was in town for Earthquaker Day)

So very upset that Penguin delivers book covers that look like this in the UK, but in USA & Canada we get the most generic stock art and (possibly AI) slop covers they can bang out.
10 books from a recent Penguin Science Fiction collection featuring black and white minimalist illustration with book titles in purple coloured typography. Reminiscent of 1950s & 1960s Penguin cover design.5 books from the recent Penguin Weird Fiction series featuring 1970s Ligne Clère-esque illustrations with contrasting typography.

I'm a boy with a job again. Abandoning all my possessions, walking off into the forest, and becoming a bog vvitch is gonna have to wait a bit longer. Design agency life maintains a tight grip on me.

In Eastern Canada you don't shadow the puppet, the puppet shadows you.
A French puppet named Pirouli. It was used from grades 1–2 in elementary schools in Eastern Canada (Ontario and Atlantic Canada) as part of French language classes as a teaching aid. Every Gen X and Millennial still has horrible nightmares about Pirouli.

Two thumbs way up. Historical fiction with dashes of horror and fantasy. Lots of environmentalism. Maybe if you liked The Terror and The Lighthouse you might also like this.

In honour of everyone being excited about The Vampire Lestat. #TheVampireLestat
A meme featuring a photograph of the first page of Anne Rice's novel "The Vampire Lestat". Above the opening text of the novel ("The Vampire Lestat here. I have a story to tell you. It's about something that happened to me.") someone wrote, in pencil, the following: "Hey guys, welcome back to my Youtube channel." In the meme frame text reads: "Oh my god what an annotation"

Fridge magnet, stick on my fridge, with a quote from the magnificent John Waters that reads “if you go home with somebody, & they don’t have books, don’t fuck ‘em.” Several other fridge magnets surrounds this magnet.

Ending 2025 with Robin Wall Kimmerer’s “The Serviceberry”. It is anti-capitalist through and through. But it’s full of actionable hope. It’s like the relaxed/meditative feeling you get from going bird watching. But in book form. Two thumbs up. Also, Saskatoon Berry Crisp is the literal best dessert.

To quote a show we watched shortly after we said goodbye to Buckley, the name of which I don’t remember, “Everyone said time would help. But it isn’t. It’s been six months. So… It’s not helping. Time is actually making it worse, because it’s taking me further away from when he was here.”
