The old books are the best books. It's like slipping back into a pair of your favourite socks that have lain for only a week or so in a damp but warm corner of your kitchen. 50 years old but full of ironic humour and observation that is fresh as hell. Unlike the socks.

Still a few tickets available. Beaver watching, beer and BBQs. Turtle doves and green frogs calling into the night. Do come if you can.

Great to be invited to missing lynx dinner last night. At the top of society people want change that helps nature. Ordinary folk and kids are also enthusiastic. The systems we have in place in Britain just don't deliver. All to often their only function is to say no.

Puppy being taught to sit on back of quad bike. Loves it as it hates walking. Only snag is that it has not mastered emergency stops. Its flying is superb. It's landings not so good.

If anyone is interested we will be running another beaver trip to Bavaria in October. Beer, beavers and lots of cakes. You will meet a fascinating array of individuals who have been involved with their competent management for many decades.

Lovely Tavistock book shop day. A wealth of wonderful stories of all sorts of lives and times. Victorian bird book illustrations always good.

And today was spent finding missing buffalo in a swamp. She looks fine. In good order and moving well. No idea why she is there on her own. Perhaps just sick of being bullied by the boys.
