This goes an order of magnitude more for short stories. Especially flash fiction. It blows my mind that there are people who think "more world-building" is something to prioritise over the story in a 2k narrative, but they're out there. They walk among us.

I say this as someone who loves worldbuilding, but too many people seem to believe that what makes a story good is some imaginary Worldbuilding Score that increases with the level of detail you’ve put into the linguistics and economic systems instead of, like, telling a good story.

Alliaria petiolata! they're a woodland creature but you can find them in parks and appropriately shady verges.
