disingenuous and utterly misleading reporting by RPS here: Discord did not suffer any kind of breach this is a completely-unaffiliated-with-Discord service

Gaming chat app Discord has suffered another user data breach, with a suspected 1 million email addresses stolen alongside (potentially many more) user IDs and IP addresses. While Discord was not targeted directly, third party security service Double Counter have reported a "deliberate, multi-stage attack" wherein hackers spent nearly six hours poking around their infrastructure before the vulnerability was closed.

Double Counter essentially acts as a bouncer bot for Discord servers, promising to detect and block unsanctioned alt accounts and prevent hostile 'raids' by large groups of malicious users. While its efficacy in that mission is debated by Discord users, and the service has previously been accused of selling user data for revenue, the fact is that Double Counter can collect and store personal info of the users that visit its 'protected' servers. Info that, now, has been partly or entirely nicked by Internet miscreants.

By Double Counter’s own estimates, around 1 million user email addresses have been affected, with databases of Discord IDs, usernames, IP addresses, and even location info for up to 28 million users also "partly" copied by the hackers. Security breach trackers Have I Been Pwned further report that 275,000 of the pinched emails and usernames have since been posted publicly.

Fucking thank you. This whole "blame the laborer for paying for services the ostensibly need to use" is missing the forest for the trees. The bottom 50% of Americans could quit all of these services today and it wouldn't matter worth a damn.

My body fucked me up last night and I get to have a sleep over at the hospital. Seeing the board on the wall reminds me of visiting mom when she was dying and I dont like that. But I once left her a painting of her cat (who passed while she was bed bound). He was a good cat.

Stop this particular type of media consumption in general, jfc you're either a self-flaggelating bore or a smug pseudo-intellectual. I'd rather be embarrassing myself by watching 7 hour video essays about cardboard than ever see a single minute of this absolutely scornful excuse of a TV show.

If anything if this failed it should be because a fucking corporation thinks a public discord server could be ethically moderated to begin with. Design your own matchmaking service, Sega. Do it. You won't. Cowards.

Oh, I imagine it'll die down into being just kind of nothing. People are very eager to jump on anything that moves that they can antagonize but they tend to get bored quickly.

110

Snix (writing comics) @depravitydimension.northsky.social · 05/10/2026

anyway yes grief isn't a phase its something you take inside yourself to kick like an ugly hackey sack. sometimes you drop it and sometimes you hit yourself in the face. c'est la vie

120

Snix (writing comics) @depravitydimension.northsky.social · 05/10/2026

Well, I certainly don't feel any more lost than I felt before. If anything I began to know myself better because of what i was able to let go of when she left. All that is to say that I don't feel like its actually that much harder than my day to day, whatever that's worth.

I mean this will sound like a dampener but my mother died last year, and a death in our friend circle happened yesterday. 2024 wasn't awful, just a year of learning many lessons. My lesson lately has been figuring out whatever the hell grief is and how awkward death makes conversations. LOL
