Am I thinking about this right? A Mac Mini M5 Max maxed out and a MacBook Neo as a thin client and just ssh when on the go

Just migrated my browser from Arc to Helium, only missing the vertical tabs but seems like it's work in progress.

I've been an avid AirPod user since 2016, today I made the switch to a pair of Nothing Ear (a) and I'm not looking back. Great fitting, ANC and audio quality. Unbelievable it's 1/3 of the price as well.

I'd say if you're building anything simple you can't go wrong with using the built in http server from net/http. It scales incredibly well and there are loads of middleware and helper for the `http.Handler` interface. If the ServeMux routing isn't enough check out Chi.

Have gotten into building a mini #homelab. Just finished designing and printing the final panel, a framework mainboard 10" 1U slot.

I've been interviewing lots of candidates for a fullstack engineer role and the similarities between candidates are very interesting to me. Majority leans into frontend rather than backend, prefers mongodb and the "mern stack". It's of course a small dataset but still interesting metrics.

The audacity of Claude to first hit me with a "Actually, that's not quite correct." and then fall back to "Ah - you're absolutely right and I was wrong."

Back on macos today after two solid months on linux. I hate to say it but it feels so good to be back. Missing my WM though.

My biggest quality of life improvement this year so far has been to add the Reminders widget to my Lock Screen on iOS.

Working on a project outside of Github is like going for a run without your fitness tracker. It's like it doesn't count and you don't feel as good afterwards.

For me it's definitely the simplicity and verbosity by design.

Got introduced to Frontpage 97. Later switched to macromedia dreamweaver and printshop pro for design to create some fancy table layouts for counter-strike clan sites.

I do the same to select power profile. Pretty neat.

I switch audio outputs multiple times per day and now when I run sway there's no built in feature that helps me to this, so I wrote a small script. When the feature usually is a dropdown in macos/gnome desktop I always opt for using fzf.

Of course there are. But from my experience I think gnome desktop is more full featured and complete solution for someone coming from windows or macos (like I am). Last time I ran KDE for example I had to install more tools and configure it to make it feel more like a full featured system.

Totally! And that's also what I love about this ecosystem. Batteries aren't included but you can hook up a v8 engine to it if you want to.

I don't mind hitting these problems as I've gone through them numerous of times. I was just hoping things would get better/easier with time.

No, I wouldn't call that a script.

Was praying for something like that with sway but seems more manual. The more time I spend in this the more I feel like I should've just gone with hyprland. What distro are you running?

Simon @depdev.bsky.social · 01/11/2024
Running sway this time around. Didn't save my i3 conf since pre-wayland days.

Don't get me wrong. I love the process but some times it's nice to get some of the device standard functionality out of the box

Linux hits you so hard when going from gnome in Ubuntu to some other window manager. You want to connect to a WiFi, you need a script for that. Raise/lower volume your system audio, write a script and bind it to some key. Don't get me started on adjusting screen brightness.
