I agree and I’m old white woman.

I think good, fair fights in primaries are needed and should be celebrated. But this kind of tearing apart each other is not. Different places need different kinds of candidates. Honestly, I am fed up with the infighting.

I’m pro rein in Trump, anti election deniers, anti scumbag abusers and pro stop the billionaires from killing us. So I don’t give a damn where you are on the center to left spectrum. I really don’t f-ing care.

I know representatives shouldn’t just be able to not show up for work but isn’t it advantageous to Dems for McConnell to be a non-vote right now? I say, let him stay away.

I wonder if any of the media outlets will apologize to David Hearn for allowing Trump officials to defame him about the reflecting pool, especially knowing this administration’s track record of lying.

Smart. Why let Rand Paul entrap him?

Barbs? You meant to say middle school bully insults . Good god, haven’t you “journalists” embarrassed yourselves enough yet?

Yes I agree. However, I may be not as optimistic. The amount of control in the hands of so few makes the chances of democracy survival anywhere very uncertain, even if we have temporary reprieves.

I’m not financially able to give big but I will be donating monthly to her campaign. It’s not just that I disagree with his policy positions, but like Trump, he is a liar. And time after time his staff has said to me “the congressman has no position on this.” What? Took lessons from Mike Johnson.

Don’t Dems in Congress still use the seniority system for chairmanships and ranking members? Maybe if that went away a few of these would stop seeing value in hanging in there if their power were to be reduced.

The right went crazy when 13 soldiers were killed when we left Afghanistan. Maybe mistakes were made but Biden faced an impossible situation that was set up by Trump. But they are saying absolutely nothing about the deaths from the Iran War. Once again they don’t give it sh$t about our military.

Their goto is always a form of “I haven’t had time see or read”, in others words “I see nothing, hear nothing, know nothing”. I mean isn’t it their job to know? And yet not one journalist will actually ask them that.

I know it’s easy to make fun of MAGA voters. But I give you Fetterman and Platner. Oh and I fell for Sinema despite warnings in AZ Dem circles.

Why is it that the pic of the woman judge is chosen rather than her much worse male counterparts? Sometimes the left irks me.

Lindsey Graham’s death should be a lesson to all politicians. He was barely pronounced dead before speculation about senate leadership, who his successor will be, and of course the fate of the voting suppression bill. You simply are NOT as important as you think you are. Do the right thing.

The Vietnam War ended once middle class boys had to sign up for the draft lottery and college deferments no longer would exempt them.

Lindsey Graham’s eyes lighting up on AF One with Trump at the thought of a war with Iran, at the thought of killing thousands if not millions still sickens me. Please spare me “don’t talk ill of the dead”.

Or go to a baseball game!“The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball… But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.” (Field of Dreams of course)

I understand that but I was not confident that this court would reaffirm that. Though I was wrong about that I wasn’t far off.

Occasionally (very occasionally) I check X where I’ve tailored my algorithm to the degree possible. It is sometimes more pleasant because there is a reality check on that site as to where our energies really need to be spent, and it’s not tearing each other down.

Early 2000s my (late)husband and I had a debate. I was a math teacher and he had taught social studies. I said STEM was the most critical for the next gen. He argued to ignore the central importance of civics and history would be a grave mistake. Yep you were right George.

Trump’s kids are not “anchor babies” (and wow do I hate that description.) They were born to an American citizen father. They would have been citizens even had they been born abroad. They derived citizenship through him. It is frustrating to accuse MAGA of being ignorant and then we post false info.

Im going to say it. Sometimes the DSA folks come off elitist and preachy.

The confederacy with its white patriarchal ideologies never went away. I knew that as a kid of the 60s and 70s. You can try to legislate fairness but the deeply embedded hatreds are generationally passed on. I keep saying we are in deep trouble. Well, we are.

Im not here to analyze every ruling. My point was simple. Judicial review, especially whether the court was the arbiter of constitutionality, was not explicit in Article 3. Marshall made it explicit.
111
DPettit @depcasa.bsky.social · 30/06/2026
Well Marshall was a federalist himself and so cunningly used that case to make the judiciary a co-equal branch and the final arbiter of constitutionality and of course increase his own political power. Sometimes I just think we venerate made-up constructs.

Is it worth remembering that this country was founded with rights being given only to white male landowners and on the backs of slaves and the genocide of the indigenous? If we are not going to go forward with justice and equity and a deference to the “common man” then why should I celebrate July 4?

Also whether the Constitution is a living document depends on whether you’re talking about the 2nd or the 14th amendment for some of the justices.

DPettit @depcasa.bsky.social · 30/06/2026
Based on most of the rulings of the SC it seems to me that with a few exceptions they do not see a role for Congress. It seems they feel power rests in either the states or the presidency. Clear examples are campaign finance reform, industry regulation and environmental laws—all dead.

Apologize that my comment came off snarky. It angers me that this guy is afforded all the financial, leave, and mental health care that so many in this country don’t get. Depression is a real illness but he is so privileged. Again apologies.

DPettit @depcasa.bsky.social · 30/06/2026
It’s time to relook at Marbury v Madison. Essentially the Supreme Court gave the Supreme Court the job of judicial review. The Constitution is really not so clear that this is the role intended by the Constitution. Just saying.

Ok I know what I’m about to say doesn’t speak to your post. But I was just reading “Goodnight Moon” to my granddaughter and laughed because the phone in the book is unrecognizable to anyone born in the last 20 years. Time marches on and things change. Anyway my apologies for the off-topic thought.

I believe there is a chance the Supreme Court will uphold birthright citizenship but with the caveat that people here on temporary visas or are here without authorization will not be eligible.

Absolutely I agree, well partly anyway. The damage has been done. I mean that’s their intent—to make us distrust our institutions. However I’m still not tethered to the polls.
