I've yet to see even one single outlet question the framing here. Not one. Nobody seems to realize that agents don't "hack on their own". People run them, give them permissions, give them goals and constraints. Those people are the ones responsible here.

You know, honestly, more than monetary donations, if somebody worked at a company that had access to a lot of 18 terabyte and larger hard drives and could talk to us, that's where we are really suffering. i started an off-grid cabin coop with some friends back in 2010. the application process was on paper, and mailed in. it prevented low-effort entries completely. i look forward to open source projects taking this approach. “your first patch can be printed out and mailed to this p.o. box for review”

watching someone in a supervisory/pm role drop 100s of small-ish bugfix commits into a repo he’s never committed to as long as i’ve followed the project. maintainer is nowhere to be seen. the pm is technical. i actually have no predictions for how this ultimately plays out. but… huh.

yeah, this. there are plenty of reasons people direct their anger at llms which front as concrete concerns (copyright, climate, economy, other) but are, in actuality, existential dread. that dread is not unfounded, but i wish more people would just be up-front about why they’re angry.
