Crinoids are animals that are related to starfish and sand dollars. When these crinoids were alive, they used their feather-like arms to filter plankton from seawater. This limestone fossil slab was collected in 1975. The fossils were painstakingly exposed using small air-powered tools.

The 56-foot fin whale skeleton suspended above you at the Museum dates from the late 19th century. The whale was shipped by rail from California to Colorado College where it was on display in Palmer Hall. In 1977, the whale skeleton came to the Museum where it has been on display ever since.
