Gloria Steinem was erroneously tied to the WWF's Rock 'N' Wrestling scene. At an awards gala, Cyndi Lauper's people asked Steinem to recite a line about Roddy Piper on camera. The clip was aired on the "War to Settle the Score." Resulted in false reports that Steinem was a WWF fan. 🤼‍♂️ #WrestleSky
A clip from the New York Daily News on March 7, 1985, where opinion writer Bevery Stephen apologizes to Gloria Steinem and Geraldine Ferraro for erroneously stating they had attended The War to Settle the Score and implying they were wrestling fans, based on their pre-recorded comments being included in the "War to Settle the Score" TV broadcast.

There were many, but one of the mom-n-pop stores was great for having an equal selection of VHS & Beta. They also rented out early-model VCRs that weighed a ton. Sadly, Valley Video existed from 1984-87, forced to close after burglars stole their entire inventory overnight. They were uninsured.

Finally checking out this Omni show from 7/1983 on WWE Vault. Great stuff overall. I know it’s not original to say the territories struggled to keep up with the times, but please note this referee is still wearing bell bottoms in mid-1983. 🤼

As big a star as she was, Dolly Parton was so humble that she initially declined her Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame honor, thinking she hadn't done enough in the rock genre to earn it. She ultimately accepted the induction, but not until she recorded her first rock album in 2023 at age 77.

I did my best to digitally rescue this 1987 pic with severe lighting issues, found on an old 35mm negative strip. The result: Bruno Sammartino looking like a velvet painting of a Universal Monster. It's actually pretty badass? #WrestleSky 🤼

The original print of the Roddy Piper “bird-flipping mom” photo is part of my collection. I shared it online 10+ years ago & it’s been circulating ever since. Here’s a bonus photo of the same fan’s reaction to Paul Orndorff. And here’s my latest YouTube video on these prints: youtu.be/9Vos1-SOTns
Two photos from a 1986 wrestling match show Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff, respectively, walking to the ring. In the Piper photo, an angry woman makes an unkind hand gesture at Piper. In the Orndorff photo, she is smiling at him and aiming a camera in his direction.

I'll settle this now: Wrestling's all-time greats wouldn't have been as big as they were without having opponents that were skilled at making them look amazing. So it's very simple. The greatest wrestler of all time was Iron Mike Sharpe. 🤼‍♂️

Rewatching WrestleMania 1. In hindsight, they really over-relied on “unknowns” back then. Like why was Brutus Beefcake from “Parts Unknown?” The Executioner was “weight unknown.” Comes across like the WWF in 1985, in kayfabe, just had a really shitty research department. 🤼
