10 support acts: Killing Joke The Mekons First Aid Kit Jason & The Scorchers Belly The Sundays Biffy Clyro* The Cranberries PJ Harvey Ruts DC Top 5, all fantastic! *2002. Left after 2 songs as they were staggeringly bad. I confidently predicted, that’s the last I’ll hear from them.

I would agree with that. The book Bedsit Disco Queen is very good. She’s about a year older than me so I could relate to it.

Her dad listening to Sinatra and she was loving The Stranglers and Buzzcocks.

My dad loved crooners. I’ve grown to like in some in small doses. My 2 brothers played Bruce Springsteen and Meat Loaf endlessly. To the extent where I don’t care if I hear said artists ever again. My younger brother has tried to covert me to Americana for decades. All to no avail

I grew up in the 70s. I remember Tracy Thorne in her book saying the cultural gap between parents and children was never so wide.

At that age mine would be a mix of classic rock, punk/new wave and post punk. Probably still would!

Goldfrapp and Fiona ❤️👏👏

It’s a great song. The lifelong abuse I’ve taken from frothing music snobs for loving Queen (73-81) is quite something. Only made me love them more.

Personally I hope Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan are there for the long haul. We don’t see nearly enough of them on TV. Ps I quite like RR and think UC has improved massively with AR in charge.

I went off X so I didn’t have to listen to malevolent and congenital liars like the above piece of shit.

Best Morrissey gig ever. And one of the very best I’ve ever seen.

My brother got some daffodils and put them in between his Meat Is Murder sleeve and its plastic cover. In December 92, the Your Arsenal tour, he got Morrissey’s sleeve at Barrowlands.

In its heyday. Only watched because I recognised many of the locations. It wasn’t very good. An attempt at a “hard-boiled Scottish crime drama.” Basically a whodunnit with some working class people and swearing.

Good grief. The absolute state of that.

You never saw STV Drama Taggart in the 80s/90s? Those were monocultural times.

Mark McManus of Taggart’s stepbrother.

Put the CCR version on. This one’s pants 🩲.

Of course these years I mention weren’t debuts. Genuinely baffled at some of later albums and who’s not included: Beefheart, Queen, Richard & Linda Thompson, Stranglers, Killing Joke… But probably an age thing 😂

I also have a soft spot for 1986.

Best year for albums, in my opinion: 1979

Great album. Easily his best. Shame he became a loony. Mind you I’ve overlooked Jaz Coleman being a loony from day one. 🤷‍♂️

Nice chatting/debating. Anyway, if my idea of great sounding hard rock albums are Led Zeppelin and Killing Joke (those first 3. Revelations produced by Conny Plank) SR is going to sound comparatively timid. I’ve given myself away. Peace out.

Nope. I think SA got a lot of other artists interested as he’d worked with Pixies and in particular, Nirvana.

Not a GBV fan. Friend loves them. I call them ‘ELO in a toilet.’ Love Fables. But took a while to appreciate it. As for Nirvana* etc, the twin juggernaut of grunge and Britpop destroyed everything in their wake. My record collection was now quaint and unfashionable. *Loved Lanegan. That’s it.
