I need to create a fair assessment environment for everyone. Quite a few students are neurodivergent, and social interactions may be extremely difficult for them. Oral exams favor students who find it easy to speak and interact. Oral examination may not indicate how well students know a subject.

Although this seems like a reasonable idea and might work for some teachers, many of my students suffer from anxiety. They would seriously melt down in oral exams, even if they knew the material. What I lament the most is not being able to assign term papers.

As a college teacher, I can attest firsthand that AI has been terrible for education. I’ve gone back to blue books and in-class exams. I can no longer assign take-home exams or even term papers. Students are losing out on their education.

I very much hope you’re right that there’s bipartisan consensus on this. But whatever legislation comes from Congress will need to be veto-proof. As you know, just getting enough Republicans to vote for such legislation is itself a tall order. Trying to get the President to listen is hopeless.

I’m a South Carolina Democrat, and I have mixed feelings about this. While the state is mostly conservative, the South Carolina Democratic Party is disorganized and seems to be quite far left. I’m worried about repeating the mistakes of 2024. The previous leader of the DNC was Jamie Harrison of SC.

I remember hearing you say that Graham was the funniest man in the Senate. He obviously had a charm and charisma, and managed to get in the good graces of both John McCain and Donald Trump. But he used that talent to mask a deep insecurity and a hunger for power and relevance. It’s a sad legacy.

Graham had nothing else in his life but his career. Never married, no family, not even a partner that we know of. His whole life was his job, and he was willing to sell his soul to keep it. As a South Carolina resident, he’s brought shame to our state in recent years.

My money is on Pamela Evette, who’s a staunch Trump loyalist. Nikki Haley might also be a longshot, although Trump soured on her in recent years. Whoever McMaster picks, it will be at the bestest of Trump, that’s for sure.
