Incidentally, I only remembered I owned this game because someone here posted "Remember Wolfenstein?" Thank you kind stranger. This is oddly cathartic.

I got a copy of "Wolfenstein: The New Order" some-odd years ago, and never really got around to playing it. Now, 'something' about the political climate makes it wildly more appealing. Still lowkey hate Bethesda, but there's no such thing as a bad time to kill Nazis.

That being said, when I'm employed again and can afford to, I'm prolly gonna pick one of those bad boys up if they're still in stock. <3

You know you've truly made it when a ridiculous 'inside' joke you make immediately starts getting ripped off. Kinda reminds me of those crazy tees they sell in Japan. Top notch jokes for sure, but sold to a crowd who doesn't get it. Still hella funny tho.

I swear FFXV did this as part of its 'character charm'. Wandering a dungeon for loot, 'Uhh, Noctis, do you know where we're going? It feels like you're lost.' Stfu Prompto, the treasure hunter is working.

To all the major publishers out there; let your devs cook. Deadlines are less important than quality. Most of us are willing to wait for the polished product. Your devs have a vision. Let them see it through. Don't rush the art. Do what you're supposed to, and support their growth and development.

Another of my favorite examples is 7 Days to Die. I knew a lot of people who'd dunk on it for being in early access for over a decade, but the end result made it one of the best coop zombie survival games I've ever played. They took their time, they did it right. In return, we got an amazing game.

Larian's approach to BG3 was as close to perfect as you can get. Smaller scale than a procedural generated universe, but it started as a complete game, and expanded from there, and continues to do so. As a result, we got an amazing game that keeps getting better, similar to NMS.

Even so, I can only imagine how soul-rending it must be to have your passion project dunked on because your deadline was more important than your vision. The drive to continue production on such a colossal flop would generally evaporate. It's rare to see a game that ambitious not get abandoned.

The point being, it was a far cry from what they promised. What they themselves intended. They weren't given enough time to cook. On release, the game bombed. In HG's case, they didn't give up on their baby. A decade later, and it's one of the most enchanting space exploration games in existence.

Regular Everyday Normal Guy @dellingr00.bsky.social · 28/12/2024
Now it just means meeting your deadline, no matter what state the game is in. When NMS first released, it had two styles of planetary bases you could visit. Cut copies down to some robot who'd somehow be at all of them, space and time be damned. (I still think that should get worked into the lore.)

I've also mentioned in the past that I wish the small developers would stop letting themselves get bought up by big-name publishers, which to my mind is hilarious. When things were working as intended, getting picked up by a big name publisher meant increased budget, bigger teams, more resources.

This era of gaming is too focused on copy/paste games with the distinguishing features being some kind of twist/gimmick/aesthetic, and little else to differentiate them. There's a sore lack of 'overly' ambitious games out there. No Man's Sky, by Hello Games, might be my favorite example otherwise.

I still want a steam deck. One of these days, I'll make it a super late Christmas present to myself. ;_;

On a half related note, I've always hated the default control scheme for (most) fighting games on keyboard. I can't remember the first game to give me the idea, but I started changing them all to wasd and 1-6 on the numpad. Literally life changing if you don't have a pad or stick.

I've yet to find a mouse that has more than like, five buttons on the side, max, that I'm able to use comfortably. One twitch and I smack a button with a ten minute cooldown. Kills me a little inside every time.

I've got a friend who swears by that series. Once I'm not broke I'm probably picking up the collection. You're just giving me more reason to love it before I even try it. <3

Some of the best options I've seen to get around it were command inputs, like fighting game commands, which DFO used, or context/directional inputs, like up/down/left/right/neutral + key = 5 skills on a single key.

I literally hate using those MMO mice with 9001 buttons on the side, too. It's the only way to "comfortably" play in that format, or a USB numpad I guess, but the idea feels backwards as hell. It's the control format that sucks. Those mice are like a bandaid for a concussion.

All I wanted for Christmas was a steam deck. Unfortunately I'm at that age where the only person dumb enough to buy me one of those is me. Is July too late to consider it a late Christmas gift to myself? Gonna be a minute. Happy holidays, everyone. <3

Trying to hook up my under used Nintendo switch to hotel wifi. Needs to be registered before giving me internet access. Console needs to be updated before I can access the page. Need internet to update. Ơ_Ơ

It's like an addiction. I get told I'm not supposed to do something, and my drive to pick that fight fucking skyrockets. I once took on one of the hardest enemy challenge dungeons in LoZ:BotW with a hang glider and blue bombs for a friend. No weapons, no shield. Took a damn hour, but I won. 💪

Or just watch S1 and wait. First season was godlike on its own tbh. Honestly the titles key animation nearly had me passing it over, half naked birdman full dive VRMMO seemed like they were just going for absurdity. I wasn't wrong, but damn they did it well.

If you haven't watched Shangri-La Frontier yet, do yourself a favor and wait til mid March for season 2 to be done. Then watch. (Code Geass ruined my ability to watch weekly. Those cliffhangers were masterworks that made me want to fly to JP just to slap the writer for being so good at it.) #anime

NGL, some of the fan translations for manga/anime slap way harder than the official subs with the artistic liberties taken. I still remember watching Gurren Lagann as a fansub, and I wish I could remember the group. Those scenes hit 10x harder than the official works occasionally.

Recently took a peek at Twitter and the disinformation is getting substantially more dangerous. Someone could get killed. The tactics of constantly repeating outright lies, targeting specific people, repurposing years-old footage and presenting them as new is getting to another level. It’s scary.

Hey, I actually just posted about something like this! Though I admit I foolishly hoped Rivals would be better. Big agree tho. These days if a PvP game doesn't have an option to mute/hide chat, it ain't worth my time. Love the concept of esports, hate it's impact on the community fr.

They're changing the system soon I hear, but library sharing was a trust game. They'd need to log into your account on their system to allow access, so you'd have to share your login info. Had a few minor issues but the main caveat was only one person could access a library at a time.

Maybe spend more time lifting your fellow player, over tearing them down. Teach, educate, share your experience. Don't just dunk on 'em for being oblivious to the meta or being "bad". We all started somewhere, doesn't matter if you learned from a friend or a youtube video. Share that energy.

I can't overstate how excited I was when gaming got recognized as a legit sport. Until I realized how bad it'd be for the competitive online community. Toxicity skyrocketed, and my interest in PvP dropped. Really, if it's not an official competition, y'all need to chill and enjoy the game.

Alternative framing: "Steam has library sharing! Even if I'm not likely to play it, someone I love might be thrilled to have access!" Honestly, since you can check which of your friends has it wishlisted on the store page, it's even easier. <3

I had one I loved passionately for years, but as with all good things, the devs decided to rework it for 'balance', and ran the game into the ground, and the regulars all but disappeared. Boy, do I miss New Moon. I'm hungry for a power fantasy game. ;-;

Really showcasing my age and exactly how long I've been a colossal nerd, but I really miss text-based Multi-User Dungeons (MUDs). Levels without caps, skills without caps, a tangible sense of growth of character, no cookie-cutter builds. Everything felt unique. Even the communities.

Massive library of games to play, and absolutely nothing popping out at me. Depression/anxiety gaming is a pain in the ass. 90% of the time you're looking for something niche as hell, that generally doesn't exist. Also not even knowing what niche you're looking for in the first place.

I'm fairly used to having to mod games, especially the older titles, for the sake of prettying them up to more modern standards, but man did BG3 spoil me. Built in mod functionality with updates and an auto load order? I dream of this being a normalized feature in all games.

Do kinda wish they'd stop letting themselves get picked up by major publishers. Gearbox getting the license to the Risk of Rain IP has been devastating tbh.

You're not wrong. It's easier to simply brute force it with knowledge you have, than go out of your way to improve your craft. Indie devs give me hope. Small businesses of the gaming industry. They're willing to go the extra mile and deserve all the support for growth.

What's wild is that over the years several developers have found little tricks and optimizations to increase performance and reduce hardware taxing massively, but no major company seems to care about optimization these days. Nah, 112gb for a patch. Seems legit.

When I was young, I considered referencing guides for RPGs to be kinda cheesy. "You should take your time and explore!" Then I hit adulthood, and I get it. I still think going at it blind is the best experience, but finding 200-300h+ to explore every nook is much harder these days.

Not to mention, I still have no idea if it'll make my computer burst into flames. So that helps curb the temptation. My specs have beefed up, but once upon a time I was relegated to exclusively low end indie games exclusively. Legitimately, due to a PSU issue, my G/CPU would overheat on Terraria.

I had all but given up on social media on a personal level, but it's hard to argue its efficacy as a tool for self-promoting. Considering I've got a project in the works, it feels only right I start posting more, get into the swing of it. When I'm not replaying and cheesing FFXV. Too poor for XVI~

Hell yeah. The world needs more arcades. Fighting games especially have been harder and harder to come across in most of them, and there's just something so satisfying about using a stick over a pad. ... I need to dig out my arcade stick.
