Album Of The Day: Odd Soul by Mutemath Released 15 years ago today, this is the 3rd studio album by the alternative rock band. After their guitarist for the first few albums left, they made the most guitar-heavy album of their career. There's lots of keyboard & impeccable drums & bass work as well.
Album Art of Mutemath's Odd Soul album - An illustration of a man from the shoulders up, with a grey suit over a white shirt and a grey tie, on a sandy brown background. Where his head would be is a picture of some dark scene with some blurry lights, like it's a picture at night while a vehicle is in motion. In the top right, there's a large drop of water with a golden white color with a dark brown reverse of it right above it, and printed over that is the band's name in simple black text. At the very bottom in a light blue box is the album title in larger text.

Album Of The Day: The Call Of Home by Held By Trees Released just yesterday, this is the third album by the English post-rock band. On this album, the band is going in a new direction with lyrics & some more traditional rock structures compared to earlier instrumental releases. I'm loving this!
Album Art of Held By Trees's The Call Of Home album - A grainy illustration of a cloudy sky with a sun above the clouds. In the foreground there's a bit of a grassy field full of flowers and there's a stairway in the middle up into a doorway in the clouds. Through the doorway can be seen a different sunny landscape where above brightly lit sky is a layer of clouds and then a dark sky with a moon. The colors are mostly deep blue land, light blue clouds, and orange and golden skies with lots of vertical gradients.

Album Of The Day: Northern Flicker by Taylor Leonhardt Released today, this is the 3rd album by this folk-pop singer-songwriter. I love how she speaks personally of her fears/doubts & still points back to faith & grace found in God as her centering point. Her melodies get stuck in my head for days.
Album Art of Taylor Leonhardt's Northern Flicker album - A picture of a field with brown grasses and other small plants, which stretches in rolling hills into the background. In the left background, a hill rises and is covered in in trees towards the top, and in the right background, there are more hills visible much further away. In the foreground is a young womany with long, dark hair, a red top and blue jeans on. She's facing toward the camera but running towards it so that most of her is just a blur of color while the background is well in-focus. Up in the clear, blue-gray sky is printed above the photo three off-white, dashed lines from right to left, a bit lower on the right than the left. In the top left, on the 2nd and 3rd line, it has printed in the same color the album title and below it the artist's name.

Album Of The Day: The Circling Hour by Iona Released 20 years ago tomorrow, this is the 6th studio album by progressive rock band Iona. This band has a beautiful mix of traditional Celtic sounds mixed with rock stylings, and though this is not their best album in my opinion, it's worth a listen.
Album Art of Iona's The Circling Hour album - A picture of the sky, with clouds towards the bottom and clear at the top. In the top, there's the moon in the top right and Aurora Borealis of various greens, pinks and purples throughout, with the colors filtering through the clouds below. The band's name is printed in red letters towards the top in the middle, with the album title printed in white, smaller lettering just below it.

Album Of The Day: Rotten Tomatoes by Colony House Released 5 years ago earlier this month, this is the 1st EP by the rock band. Released between their 2020 & 2023 albums, this is 5 songs that span a variety of styles & didn't fit on their other albums, though I am certainly glad they were released.
Album Art of Colony House's Rotten Tomatoes EP - A picture of 7 bright red tomatoes, attached with vines in groups of 2 and 5, on a solid blue background. A few of the tomatoes have a line on their side, and some of them are black inside. Printed on the top of the photo in white text is 'Artist: Colony House', 'Project: Rotten Tomatoes', and 'Run Time: 00:18:26:680'.

Album Of The Day: NWxSE by Smalltown Poets Released 5 years ago today, this is the 8th studio album by the long-time rock band. They deliver 10 new songs that are fun, personal & contain some religious concepts. Like many albums released in the year after COVID-19, it is a bit heavier lyrically.
Album Art of Smalltown Poets's NWxSE album - A color photo of five middle-aged men standing in front of a building with stone walls and tall, thin windows and a roof that goes up and down often. The sky above the building is a golden grey/white, almost the same color as the building. On the left side, a portion of a large, blue circle is on top of the photo, and on the right a similar red partial circle is over that edge of the photo. At the top, in the sky, is printed the album title in large, dark blue text with red and blue shadows on opposite sides, and below that printed in smaller text is the band's name in blue and red.

Album Of The Day: Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder Released 50 years ago today, this is the 18th studio album by the music legend. I understand why many consider this one of the best albums of all time, as Stevie Wonder is making excellent music throughout this album's lengthy runtime.
Album Art of Stevie Wonder's Songs In The Key Of Life album - A series of 5 circles are inside of each other, each circle with rough edges that seems ripped out of paper, maybe. The interior of the circles is darker than the outer edges, a dark red in the middle and more of a light gold on the outside, until you get to the innermost circles. The innermost, smallest circles is all white and has a drawing or black-and-white photo of a black man with curly hair from the shoulders up and wearing sunglasses. On a bottom part of the circles, printed in a fancy black cursive-style font, is the album title and below it in slightly bigger text, the artist's name.

Album Of The Day: Vice Verses by Switchfoot Released 15 years ago today, this is the 8th studio album by the San Diego-based rock band. I can't decide my favorite albums from them because they are all really good, but this is one of their best. It's got a lot of types of rock: slow, fast and epic.
Album Art of Switchfoot's Vice Verses album - On a somewhat golden-hued light background with some ringwear on it, so maybe a worn paper vinyl sleeve, someone took a large sharpie and wrote 'Vice Verses' in all caps, filling up the whole space with huge letters. Where the bottom of the first word meets the top of the 2nd word, that middle area is all black and then cut out of that black is the band name in a a bold, serif font. And below that is a stylized 'S', a word-mark for the band made of two angled blocks, the lower one with a star shape attached to the bottom.

Album Of The Day: The Cymbal Crashing Clouds by Ben Shive Released 15 years ago today, this is the 2nd album by the musician & producer. I've never taken time to check out his own albums until today. It's surely on the more experimental end of rock/pop music, but it's really layered & interesting.
Album Art of Ben Shive's The Cymbal Crashing Clouds album - An illustration of a city of some sort. The sky is pink for some reason, and on the left is a large tree with no leaves. Underneath the tree is a yellow owl with a white, human face that is as tall as the multi-story buildings the own is standing next to. Across the are to the right of the owl is four buildings, all pained white with not too many windows, and all of which have red roofs but different colored doors. In front of them, stretching across the bottom, is a road which has 6 cars of various colors on it. In front of the tree is a wall with a door in it and a person walking through. Behind the buildings on the right is a green, steep hill and there are four green churches on the hillside. Around the edge of the hill comes a train on a track that stretches out into the sky above the buildings and the track is falling apart. The train is red and the steam from the locomotive is the clouds, where the album title is printed in a script. To the left of that, in the pink sky, is the artist's name in yellow.

Album Of The Day: In The Company Of Angels by Caedmon's Call Released 25 years ago today, this is the 5th album by the folk-rock band. On this, though, they trade personal folk songs with Christian themes for modern worship songs in the band's musical style. It's not an album I listen to often.
Album Art of Caedmon's Call's In The Company Of Angels album - A photo of what looks like a leather cover that is on top of a bunch of loose pages with ragged edges piled on top of each other, photographed from the top down. On the cover, the leather is a light brown and whitened with wear in spots. There's a simple line drawing of a church building with a double door and a cross on top that is in the most worn spot on the left side. To the right of that, it has the band's name printed in a handwriting-style font in black, plus the album title printed below that in smaller, serif font and then 'a call to worship' in another handwriting font below that.

Album Of The Day: Forever Phase by Paul Meany Released one year ago today, this is the 1st album by this electronic pop/rock artist. The lead vocalist of one of my all-time favorite bands, Mutemath, Paul is an excellent songwriter and musician & though this is not amazing, it's a good solo start.
Album Art of Paul Meany's Forever Phase album - An illustration with a large building on the right side with multiple levels, and a road stretching out down the middle. On the left, the road dissolves into space with stars and galaxies. The sky above is lighter than the space on the left, but there's lines of darkness radiating from the vanishing point in the back of the drawing. Where the sky and the space meet, there's a thin circle outline, maybe supposed to evoke a moon. In the middle, what looks to be a small person is there, and in the air near them there's a few curvy lines suspended there. Across the bottom in small letters is the album title painted in black.

Album Of The Day: Get In, I'm Drivin' by Ginny Owens Released 15 years ago earlier this month, this is the 7th studio album by this pop singer. I lost track of Ginny Owens for a bunch of years there but I'm glad I circled back to her music. The music is pop but has a bit of a jazz/blues bent to it.
Album Art of Ginny Owens's Get In, I'm Drivin' album - A photo of the New York City skyline taken from the Brooklyn Bridge with cars streaking by on the deck below is the background. On top of that is layered a woman with brown hair down past her shoulders, bangs and a frilly black dress leaning on a classic yellow cab that looks a bit worn out. She's got a bunch of jewelry on her fingers and wrists and keys in her left hand. Printed over the top of these in big, semi-transparent aqua blue letters is the artist's name right in the center, with the album title in smaller, yellow letters just below it to the left.

Album Of The Day: Target And The Arrow by PFR Released today, this is the 6th album by rock band PFR & their first album of all-new songs in 25 years. Their voices sound great, the music is excellent & the songs are interesting & growing on me after a few listens. It's almost like they never left!
Album Art of PFR's Target And The Arrow album - Spilt down the middle vertically with a thick black bard between them, there are two photos of similar-looking buildings. They building is a part of a brutalist housing tower, with mostly just concrete walls and windows and various colored wall panels adding a splash of color from time to time. The two pictures look pretty similar and are a bit blurry, but the left one has windows on the outside of the structure, while the right one has more windows inset a bit, so there's a shadow from the sun on those parts. Printed in white over the top of the left photo is the band's name, and in smaller, thin black text on the right photo's top area is the album title in lowercase.

Album Of The Day: Satellite by P.O.D. Released 25 years ago earlier this month, this is the 4th studio album by the nu-metal band. P.O.D. might be known for just a few songs on this like "Alive", "Boom" and "Youth Of The Nation", but this is a top-notch album of reggae-infused nu-metal with heart.
Album Art of P.O.D.'s Satellite album - A color photo of four young men in black shirts and baggy navy blue pants with black-and-white sneakers stand on a flat, desert landscape that spreads very far off to some hills way off in the background. The sky is blue and clear and the sun in shining right above their heads, putting a shadow in front of them. On the edges of each person, there's some sort of moving blur but the people are perfectly clear, so it's maybe some sort of effect or double-exposure. Printed on top of the photo is the band's word mark with a trinity symbol inside the 'O', and with an embossed, chrome metal look. In smaller text, the word 'satellite' is outlined in silver chrome metal.

Album Of The Day: Ghosts Upon The Earth by Gungor Released 15 years ago today, this is the 2nd album by this experimental folk-rock band. This reminds me of something like Sufjan Stevens, with a good amount of mandolin & acoustic instruments, but also rock experimentation & even some choral parts.
Album Art of Gungor's Ghosts Upon The Earth album - A photo of a man and woman in front of a beautiful landscape. A grassy open space has trees behind it, and above it a sand brown sky. The landscape is in focus, but the people in the front are very hard to make out, like they were moving as the photo was taken. The man on the left is bearded, has glasses, and is wearing dark clothing. The woman on the right seems to be wearing a light-colored dress and her long hair is flying every which way. In the top right, it says the band name in lowercase text.

Album Of The Day: Good Monsters by Jars Of Clay Released 20 years ago earlier this month, this is the 7th album by the alternative rock band. This has more prominent electric guitar & top-notch bass & drums compared to their previous albums. Lyrically, they explore insecurities & cultural issues.
Album Art of Jars Of Clay's Good Monsters album - On a white background with a hint of a creamy green hue, four men are photographed from behind standing together, either wearing black furry suits from head to toe or maybe all with a furry black rug covering their backs. The black back of the furry costume has on top of it a mess of pipes, billows, an overturned chair, and much more. It's probably meant to allude to the complicated internal machinery of humans and/or the band. In the off-white background, above this is printed in large black letters the band's name, and at the bottom the band's name in about the same size as well.

Album Art of the Back To Bellsburg: The Songs Of Rich Mullins album - A photograph of a simple, white house with a porch on the right side and a dormer on the left side. The photo fades to a dark green in the bottom and left and there it says in small text, 'back to' then `Bellsburg' in bigger, uppercase text. Below that it says 'The Songs of Rich Mullins'.

Album Of The Day: The Wonderlands: Darkness by Jon Foreman Released 11 years ago earlier this month, this is the 7th EP from Jon Foreman, lead singer of rock band Switchfoot. Many of the songs are pretty slow and chill, with beautiful strings. It's a solid EP for a late-night listen before bed.
Album Art of Jon Foreman's The Wonderlands: Darkness EP - On what looks like rough, light brown paper with a coffee cup stain in the top left, there is a photo of a black sky with a with some potential clouds over a calm, wide body of black water. On the top right edge, the image is worn out a bit, and there's a piece of clear tape on the bottom right of the image, affixing it to the paper. Above it, in the middle, it says 'The Wonderlands' in a smaller, light gray font, and 'Darkness' in a much larger black text. Below the photo, there's a handwritten, thin pen signature of Jon Foreman. There's also a thick black border around it.

Album Art of Andrew Peterson's Clear To Venus album - A close-up photo of a young, clean-shaven man with brown hair wearing a white T-shirt under a dark green sweater. The top of his head is cut off at the top of the frame, and behind him can be seen a door with painted pieces of glass that cannot be seen through. Towards the bottom, printed on top of his sweater, is the artist's name in lowercase white text on the left in white and the album title on the right in aqua blue-green. Album Art of The Hawk In Paris's His + Hers EP - On a light brown background with slightly darker corners, in the middle is a cutout of a hand, and through it we can see a black and light brown image of fingers from two hands covering a person's face. Their right eye and forehead is visible, but much of the rest of their face is in shadow and outside the cutout. Printed across the center of the image in large, white letters is the group's name, with the EP title in much smaller text below it to the right.

Album Of The Day: Worship by Michael W. Smith Released 25 years ago this past Friday, this is the 13th album by the Christian pop singer and a bit of a turning point in his career. It's a beautiful recording of modern worship songs written by others and performed by many talented musicians.
Album Art of Michael W. Smith's Worship album - On a dark orange background, in the middle is an illustration of a man from the waist up standing, looking up to the sky with a face brightly lit from the right side, with his hands raised above his head. Around him are hundreds or maybe even a thousand shooting stars all converging behind him or at his feet. This illustration is in orange, white and dark orange. Around this is a hand-drawn border in orange, then above that the artist's name in thin, white text and the album title in a more decorative text below the illustration. There's another hand-drawn border around all that, and then some more space of the background.

The white heart has some branches and cracks spreading along it too. Over the top of all this is printed in black, "Gravity', then a vertical line, then 'Love'. In the bottom right is printed in smaller black letters the album name.

The camera is pretty close to the grass, and the band is looking towards the camera. The man in the middle is leaning down towards the camera, and his necktie is hanging from his neck over his left ear to make you wonder which way is up or down. At the bottom, it has the band name in a white, bubbly font with a black border. Then to the right of that it has album title in slightly smaller, black text.

Album Of The Day: Signs Of Life by Steven Curtis Chapman Released 30 years ago today, this is the 8th studio album from the Christian pop artist. This is, I think, one of his better albums with songs like "Lord Of The Dance", "Let Us Pray" & "The Walk" that were everywhere in Christian culture.
Album Art of Steven Curtis Chapman's Signs Of Life album - In the top left and stretching to nearly half the cover area, the letters of the album title are set on a black background in orange in various orientations. Some letters are smaller than others and some letters on their sides or sitting inside of other letters, so they're kinda jumbled up a bit. Below that, the artist's name is printed in small text. To the right of this main are is a portrait photo of a white man with light-colored, short hair wearing a black suit with large orange stripes. At the bottom is a blue texture of some sort.

Album Of The Day: Band Of Brothers by Band Of Brothers Released 5 years ago today, this is the only album from a group of long-time musicians. John Walquist & Ragnar Rosinkranz created a different album a few years before. Then Phil Keaggy collaborated with them to rework it into a pop/rock album.
Album Art of Band Of Brothers's self-titled album - A black-and-white drawing on a white background, it looks like it was maybe drawn in pencil. In front of a white house, four men are sitting on a porch. They are pictured sitting on oversized versions of the instruments in a surrealist fashion: a man in a hat with short hair is leaining up against an acoustic guitar on the left, and the man to his right is sitting on a stringed bass on its side. The man to the right of center seems to have more gray or white hair and is wearing a black shirt and is sitting on an oversized classic microphone. And the last man has a baseball hat and is sitting on top of a large drum placed on its side, and his legs seem extra long. Printed in the middle above their heads in black with a drop shadow is the band name in a handwriting-style font.

Album Of The Day: ERACE by The Gotee Brothers Released 30 years ago today, this is the only album from this\ Nashville-based hip-hop group. I'm not sure if one professional artist and two music producers who are all white men are the best people to solve racism, but I guess it's cool they tried.
Album Art of The Gotee Brothers's ERACE album - On an orange background, two black-and-white photos of old, bearded men are layered on top of each other, one facing more to the left and one on the right. They are layered such that the left eye of one and the right eye of the other are in the same spot. Along the left side of the photo is written in small black text vertically that is the group's name. At the bottom, it has 'erace' written in orangeish-white and in smaller text to the right, 'a project to eliminate racism'.

Album Of The Day: [Untitled] EP by meWithoutYou Released 8 years ago today, this is the 4th EP from the alternative rock band. Aaron Weiss's poetry is certainly odd & the band's musicianship is more interesting than I remember on previous listens, so I probably just never gave this a chance before.
Album Art of meWithoutYou's [untitled] EP - On a white background, the center fifth of the area is a circle of lines and colors. It's mostly black lines and bits of bright color in a swirling, circular mass. I'm trying to make out shapes or forms I know, but I'm not really making any out.

Album Of The Day: Faith by Jason Upton Released 25 years ago this past Friday, this is the 2nd album from this modern worship artist. He is one of the most unique voices in Christian music in my opinion. He & his band (with a violin prominent) have many spontaneous musical prayers & praise to God.
Album Art of Jason Upton's Faith album - It looks like a blurry photo of a street, maybe, or maybe the lights of a street reflecting off some sort of shiny surface. The main defining characteristic of this image is horizontal lines of white and a few smaller lines of red, with some smaller red dots in the image as well. Printed on top of this mostly red, white and black image is the artist's name in a thin, orange font in the middle, with the album title to the right in a semi-transparent, bold white font.

Album Of The Day: Where The Past Meets Today by Sarah Kelly Released 20 years ago today, this is the 2nd album from the Christian power pop artist. Her vocals are certainly the standout here; she can really belt it out & it works great with these heartfelt rock songs. Slash plays on a few tracks.
Album Art of Sarah Kelly's Where The Past Meets Today album - On a black background, a photo of a woman in a black dress from the chest up, such that only really her neck and head can be seen in the light, along with her long, curly red hair. She's got a pretty blank look on her face and is looking into the camera. She has pretty dark makeup around her eyes. Just below her neck, printed in large, white, all-caps letters is the artist's name. Below that in much smaller letters is the album title in gold, uppercase letters.

Album Of The Day: Make It Out Alive by The Arcadian Wild Released today, this is the fourth album from the acoustic folk/bluegrass group. They've got an excellent sound: a very simple, organic mix of fiddle, mandolin, acoustic guitar and bass, with no drums on most tracks. It's 12 beautiful songs.
Album Art of The Arcadian Wild's Make It Out Alive album - What looks iike a drawing of a beautiful evening scene, as the sunset near the horizon and the partly-cloudy, blue sky with stars are the top half. Near the horizon are large hills, some with rocky, steep parts. In the foreground is a building that looks like a roadside diner, it's exterior bathed in the orange glow of the neon sign above that says 'Make It Out Alive' in all caps on top of the building, with 'The Arcadian Wild' in smaller letters on the front of the building below it. In the building, it looks maybe more like a large living room, with people dancing, some sitting at tables, and someone playing a piano. Outside, there's mostly dirt on the ground, a few old sedans parked out front, and three people are approaching the building. We can only see them from the back, but it looks like two men and a woman in nice clothes.

Album Of The Day: Sarah Masen by Sarah Masen Released 30 years ago back in June, this is the 2nd album from the pop/rock singer-songwriter. The music and her vocals have a playful, jazzy vibe, but the lyrics are Sarah Masen's attempts to put her Christian faith into practice in this modern world.\
Album Art of Sarah Masen's self-titled album - An over-exposed or oddly edited photo of a young woman taken from closer to the ground in front of her. She's looking down with her eyes mostly closed and has a serene look on her face. Her hair is down to her shoulders and she seems to be wearing a dark coat. Her face and wall behind her is a gold color, while some of her clothes and the brick wall behind her are red, then brown and black, so maybe it's some sort of gradient of colors replacing the actual colors. The background seems to be a large brick wall a bit behind her, with a brick arch built into the wall, and she's framed inside the archway. Above her head is printed her name, and there's four interlocking circles printed above that.

Album Of The Day: Shot Of Love by Bob Dylan Released 45 years ago today, this is the 21st studio album from the legendary singer-songwriter. His last album of his "Christian" era, Dylan was still writing rock songs with a bit of a Gospel flair. For some reason, there's a song about Lenny Bruce too.
Album Art of Bob Dylan's Shot Of Love album - A close up drawing of a big, cartoon-style explosion, with orange light and lines going out from the center. In the center is printed the album title in large, white text. Across the top is a deep blue background and the artist's name is off to the right in white text.

Album Of The Day: Sticks & Stones by Wes King Released 35 years ago sometime this year, this is the 2nd album from the Christian pop/rock artist. Like most of this genre from that era, it sounds a bit dated and the country influence is noticeable here with the production & recording of this album.
Album Art of Wes King's Sticks And Stones album - On a black background, across the middle form right to left is a photo of a man standing against a pole and holding a dobro guitar. The image looks like it's been de-saturated and re-colored, maybe, as his skin looks less pink, and the yellows and greens in the photo is highlighted, including his golden yellow shirt and the green diamonds painted on the wall behind him. In front of the bottom of the photo, a yellow floor, is printed the album title in larger text in black and white letters, and in much smaller black letters over and over. Above the photo in the black is the artist's name in large golden yellow text.

Album Of The Day: The Great Light by Rivers & Robots Released 15 years ago this coming Wednesday, this is the 1st studio album from this English worship band. Released independently, Jonathan Ogden & his band mix Bible verses & prayers with simple melodies of soft rock & keyboard-based electronica.
Album Art of Rivers And Robots's The Great Light album - A drawing of three birds sitting on a branch with a few leaves and berries in the middle of a beige background. Above the illustration, still near the middle, is the band's name in fairly small black text. In slightly smaller text towards the bottom is the album title. Along the left side is wedge-shaped area which shows a field of sunflowers in black-and-white. Above all this in the middle are three interlocking circles, the biggest one an orangish-red, the middle size a light blue, and the smallest a light green.
