I had no intentions when doing this. I just wanted to play in the mud with my new boots. And yet there is my presence, hidden somewhere as mundane as a patch of dirt.

It has now been several months of rains and storms and floods, and their presence is still there, albeit shallower and topped with a layer of moss. Where the mud has pooled over time are the very faint outlines of my boot prints.

Once it turned to spring, I didn't wear the boots as much, but because of how often I'd re-make the foot prints the spots dried out and stayed.

Over this past winter, since getting my new rain boots, I would stand in the mud in our courtyard. In the same spot, just outside the door, waiting for my dog to do her thing. Squishing it under my feet exactly where my steps from the previous day were, just to see how the mud reacted.
