That’s a fair concern. It’s super easy to function as an anglophone visiting and existing in Montreal but if you’re in service or representing someone it’s definitely a disadvantage. Some sectors like software development may have more opportunities than retail or tourism.

As I understand US congress reps don’t need to live in the district they rep but do need to be a state resident where the district resides. Canada also doesn’t have any limitations on immigrants(who have attained citizenship) to hold any office.

Perfectly fair question. There are no limitations as to what riding(electoral district) you wish to run in as long as your at least age 18, are a citizen and have no impediments to serving like being incarcerated. The concept of a carpet bagger is fairly irrelevant outside of optics.

To address your concern. Elections Canada is an independent organization run by Canadians including myself with uniform practices across the country. One system instead of fifty. EC reports to parliament, not the government(governing party).
