At Akasaka Fukinuki, Daimaru Shinsaibashi Store.
26 July was Japan's Midsummer Day of the Ox.
In Japan, there is a tradition of eating foods beginning with the sound "u" to help people get through the hot summer.
Eel is the food most commonly eaten for this occasion.

In the foreground is a "Hitsumabushi" with its lid opened, showing grilled eel served over rice.
Behind it are grilled eel liver on a skewer, bowls of condiments, a pot of dashi broth, and a cup of green tea.

"Hitsumabushi" is a traditional dish from Nagoya consisting of grilled eel served over rice with a soy sauce-based glaze and Sanshō (Japanese pepper).
It is enjoyed in several ways, including with condiments and by pouring dashi broth over the rice.
"Grilled eel liver (Kimo-yaki)" is a Japanese dish made by threading the livers and other edible organs from several eels onto a skewer, coating them with a sweet soy-based sauce, and grilling them until fragrant.

Hi! I'm #DeidaraBotchi. Water's in, just gotta wait a bit now🍜 #Udon #UdonDay #うどんの日 #Japan #JapanTravel #日本 #Nuidori #ぬい撮り #WoolFelt #NeedleFelt
At home in the kitchen.
On a table covered with a blue checked cloth, there is a white kettle on the left and a cup of instant udon on the right.

Today is "Udon Day" in Japan.
In Kagawa Prefecture, there is a custom of eating udon around "Hangeshō" (a traditional seasonal day in the Japanese calendar) to thank people for their hard work during the farming season.
This custom is the origin of Udon Day.

"Udon" is one of Japan's best-known noodle dishes, made from wheat flour, water, and salt.
"Cup udon" is an instant version of udon that is prepared simply by adding hot water.
It was first developed in Japan.

Hi! I'm #DeidaraBotchi. It's #Minazuki eating day today🍵 #夏越の祓 #水無月 #Japan #JapanTravel #日本 #Nuidori #ぬい撮り #WoolFelt #NeedleFelt
At home.
A triangular Japanese sweet called "Minazuki" is placed on a hydrangea-shaped plate.
Minazuki is a traditional sweet made from white "Uirō" (steamed rice-flour cake) topped with red "Azuki" beans.
Its triangular shape is said to represent ice, while the azuki beans are believed to ward off evil and misfortune.
Beside it is a serving of "Matcha warabi mochi".

In Japan, particularly in Kyoto, there is a custom of eating Minazuki on 30 June to coincide with Nagoshi no Harae (a traditional Shinto purification ritual held at the midpoint of the year).
People eat it to cleanse themselves of impurities accumulated during the first half of the year and to pray for good health during the remaining six months.

Hi! I'm #DeidaraBotchi. Yesterday was Steamed Food Day ♨️ #蒸し料理の日 #Japan #JapanTravel #日本 #Nuidori #ぬい撮り #WoolFelt #NeedleFelt
At home.
A photo of a seiro-steamed dish prepared for “Steamed Food Day”.
The date comes from a Japanese wordplay in which 6 (“mu”) and 4 (“shi”) can be read together as “mushi” (steamed).

A "Seiro" is a traditional Japanese steamer made from bamboo or wood.
It is used to gently steam ingredients while helping to retain their natural flavours and texture.

Inside the seiro, enoki mushrooms, carrots, and mizuna greens wrapped in pork are arranged in a radial pattern.
On a small table beside it is a miniature version of the same dish.

The vivid red colour is especially eye-catching.

These objects also appeared in the animated film Josee, the Tiger and the Fish.

Hi! I'm #DeidaraBotchi. A wild boar here, too🐗 #Zenkyoan #禅居庵 #Kyoto #京都 #Japan #JapanTravel #日本 #Nuidori #ぬい撮り #NeedleFelt #NeedleFeltTravel #Travel
In front of the boar statue at Zenkyoan.
The temple was founded in 1333 and is also known as the “Inoshishi Dera (Boar Temple)” and “Marishiten-san.”
A stone statue boar stands here, and at its feet sits an omikuji holder shaped like a little boar piglet.

The temple is dedicated to the sacred hidden statue of Marici, the Buddhist deity of light and mirage.
Within the temple grounds, there are many statues and carvings of wild boars, originating from the fact that the statue of Marici is depicted riding a boar.
