as for a more technical breakdown on how this could possibly work, the tags and checks for them can be optionally created while editing any nodes, making this an entirely opt-in system which won't interfere with existing and future paths. thank you for reading my thread :)

When creating nodes, a tag check option now appears above the description. This is where you can create the checks for any prey's preference.

It consists of uneditable text boxes and dropdown menus featuring created tags/strings and a 'new tag/string' option
strings are bound to tags, ex: digestion_type cannot be "no"

a + button on the right and bottom can add additional conditions
conditions can be "and" or "or"

example image of the node edit window, which now has a "tag checks" segment reading 'no conditions' with an "edit tags" button.

below this is a list of checks, first checking if the "i_beat_you_with_a_bat" tag is "yes",
then checking if the "digestion_type" tag is "melty",
then checking if the "digestion_type" tag is "bones" AND the "stay" tag is "long"

new button when editing the description on any node with set tag conditions, allowing the editor to quickly thumb through the different descriptions for each condition

i dunno how hard it'd be to implement but it's possible that tags could also change titles, action verbs, and duration
this isn't part of the main suggestion, just food for thought

this would allow for more neat and compact (albeit simpler) paths that have multiple duration options

examples of different 'duration' sections of a node, changing in length depending on a "stay" tag which has the possible values of "quick", "long", and "perma"

this system could be used for multiple things, though is intended specifically for preds adding slight variation to their paths while avoiding clutter and/or accommodating different prey preferences

the pred can then make alternative text to be stored inside of nodes, nodes can now optionally check if variables are specific strings and can display different text depending on what value a variable is

there are two different demonstration images, both are of a 'Digested...' node, both are mostly the same but the leftmost image is for a 'melty' digestion type and the rightmost is for a 'bones' digestion type, with minor changes to the description to match.

when a tag is selected in the proposal window all nodes with checks will change their description so both sides can see what theyre getting into

there are two different images of a preview of the same "stomach" node in the proposal window, one displays a description fitting a melty digestion type while the other completely changes the text to match the earlier "i_beat_you_with_a_bat" tag.

the central idea is giving predators a way to add possible variation to the nodes inside of their paths without creating entirely new nodes for what could be extremely small changes.

A 'tag' value can be selected while either party in an interaction are proposing, once the interaction actually starts the tag is set in stone

tags would allow automatic description changes to nodes to fit prey preferences without editing paths or cluttering them with extremely similar nodes

these tags are variables which can be defined as a string created by the predator, neatly selected via drop-down table or something

the predator is able to select a default value for tags which is pre-selected before the proposal begins

if you want to you can also pretend they're booleans (true/false)

to the right of this there's a demonstration with a "digestion_type" tag and 3 different examples of what it could be set to, "melty", "bones", and "graphic"
there is also an "i_beat_you_with_a_bat" tag with the options of "no" and "yes"

Screenshot 1 is an artist saying they gave 3 pieces of art for free worth roughly $100.
