Eric Bruning @deeplycloudy.bsky.social · 14/10/2022Here's a fun lightning flash: after an initial intracloud (upward negative channel), a second negative channel initiates near the first origin, heads off to the side, and then turns around and comes to ground on the other side of the original discharge. Eric Bruning @deeplycloudy.bsky.social · 20/08/2022The @wtlma detected the tracks of two commercial flights, and A321 and B737 flying about 5kft apart. The detections are from corona discharge from the static wicks on the wings/fuselage, resulting from flying through thick ice clouds that charge the aircraft. 000

Eric Bruning @deeplycloudy.bsky.social · 27/05/2022We found some really pleasant sites for our lightning sensors during the #ARMTRACER campaign, and are grateful for the generosity of the many residents of Winnie and Angleton who were so helpful as we surveyed the area! 000
Eric Bruning @deeplycloudy.bsky.social · 22/05/2022We're redeploying a couple @wtlma stations for the #ARMTRACER project for the next couple months, adding on to the Houston LMA operated by @loganen3. Eric Bruning @deeplycloudy.bsky.social · 09/09/2021Radar polarimetry people: is this layer of 0 to -3dB Zdr from 3-9kft smoke, chaff, or Bragg? Negative values seem too small for Bragg, coverage too big for chaff. Maybe in about the right spot for yesterdays’s residual boundary layer? 100

Eric Bruning @deeplycloudy.bsky.social · 11/08/2020This is one of the cleaner examples I’ve seen where Zdr distinguishes a hail core from other relatively high reflectivity regions. Some interesting propagation artifacts and three body scatter in two different lobes off the west end, too. 000

Eric Bruning @deeplycloudy.bsky.social · 24/07/2020@cityoflubbock it looks like the month labeling on the COVID dashboard is displaying a label for Jun 1 at the center of the month. I totally get how that could happen, but it does make the chart misleading. 000
