Been on a side quest recently of retrofitting an old scrabble board for a TTRPG I've been working on to play with some friends, here's how it's going so far 🤙

Scrabble tiles filled with drywall compound to fill in the gaps where the letters are and then sanded to a smooth finish.

Scrabble tiles that have been filled and sanded have received their first coat of gesso to prime the surface via an airbrush. 3 more coats applied to get an even surface.

All tiles are placed in groups of six face down on painters tape making sure to seal around the edges fully so the black in in the airbrush doesn't bleed under when spraying the backs of the tiles or the sided. After this they are given a coat of varnish to protect the pigment via a brush, the kind I have is to thick to run through an airbrush.

All the tiles are laid out and ready for their designs. All touch ups have been made so we are left with a stark white surface to work on top of with each of the 196 tiles available.

So far I'd say working with rust has been a success? There's a lot more I want to do with this but it's a process. Trying to think of something bigger I can do with this for a long term project. Having the fluid sit longer causes the stains to "deepen".
