I think there were some text-based games created the year I was born, but I’m going old school.

Patient Update: Bald Eagle 26-519

It is with profound sadness that we share that Patient 26-519 passed away in the early hours of this morning, following more than three weeks of intensive medical care.

Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment and the combined efforts of our veterinary team and consulting specialists. She remained critically ill, receiving oxygen therapy, supportive treatment, and around-the-clock monitoring in our intensive care unit.

Throughout her time at Ojai Raptor Center, every decision was guided by the available medical evidence, her welfare, and our responsibility to do what was in her best interest.

Her remains have been transferred into the care of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW).

We know this news will be deeply felt by the many thousands of people around the world who have followed her journey, hoped alongside us, prayed for her, and supported the people caring for her.

Our team is heartbroken. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for her.

We ask for patience and kindness as our staff process this loss. We are working closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and will provide a more comprehensive statement including additional information on her treatments and test results.

Beaker, our five year old, pumpkin-shaped Siamese cat, is curled up against my denim clad leg, which is propped up on my other leg, leaving a conveniently Beaker-sized space at the foot of the recliner just out of petting distance. My two kitties curled up next to each other against my leg under a white down alternative comforter. In the foreground is Beaker, a five year-old chunk of a seal-point Siamese mix with every appearance of being full Siamese. His back is very dark brown. His head is resting on his front legs with one cheek resting against my calf. His lovely blue eyes are closed.

Behind him is Munchkin, an eight-month-old, short-haired gray menace to Christmas trees and ornaments. Fortunately for him, he’s adorable and has the softest velvety fur you’ve ever imagined. Munchkin, my six month old gray kitten, is stretched out across my pillow, which is tucked under my arms, and facing me so that his belly is within kissing distance (he is practically up under my chin) not that I’ve tested it or anything 👀. If you look closely you can see the faint darker gray striping in his tail (that reminds me of a lemur) which is curled up against his bum. His front paws are crossed in front of but not touching his nose and he is using my stretches out arm to keep from sliding off the pillow onto the floor.
