Columbus was a genocidal warlord and slaver. He wasn't Italian. There was no Italy to be from. He was Genoese serving the Catholic Monarchs of Spain. Instead promote Giuseppe Garibaldi Day; a true Italian who actually lived in the US who was an abolitionist and supported democratic government.

This is the great opportunity to say that, one of the few moments I make points that may be deemed political in my course, is when I show this map, start making jazz hands, start explaining that "Mēxihco" is a Nahuatl word, and point out the common sense fact that is the gulf the Aztecs lived in.

I learned this morning that a mentor of mine and retired colleague within Kean History, Dr. Brian Regal, passed away suddenly Quite literally everything I believe about being a historian flowed from this man's example in some way. He was also why I abhor pseudoscience He is a dearly missed friend.

George Carlin, of the Silent Generation, in 1996 for Back in Town comedically nailed this attitude "Gimme it! It’s mine!" attitude when the average Boomer was in their 40s. The youngest Millenials are now as old as the youngest Boomers were in 1996. Keep that in mind as they begin to demand this.

When I was sick with cancer as a kid, both times, I accumulated many soft toys of the beanie and stuffed varieties. When my uncle was going through cancer treatment, I got him this bear. He passed a few years ago. My aunt gifted it back to me this morning. I miss my Uncle Jimmy every single day.

Old Dan didn't deserve how this went down. I got the 2003 DVD after reading the novel and its still in its plastic wrap...somewhere; unwatched. I have a ceramic coaster of the 1st edition cover on my desk. I study war and mass murder but this book still fucks my shit up all these years later.

This is a side point, based on an OP comment, but there is literally an argument of a Soviet genocide in Afghanistan. 2M Afghan civilians dead. That's significantly higher than the mujahideen/allies fighting losses. An armument that does not exist for the GWOT despite how much Tankies want it to.

As we near 9/11's 25th anniversary, remember: Operation Yellow Ribbon. Canada opened its airspace, aside from their own gov't needs, primarily for arriving grounded US planes. They did this not as NATO allies but as our friends and neighbors. We owe them our deepest apologies and eternal thanks.

One, see below Two, there is a profound sadness to this. Trump obviously used to walk into a room with cocktails and his BS anecdotes as some bigshot. Now his mind is gone.
