Macropad Hotkeys II v4.3.1 is out the door! This is the stable, daily driver release that I've put through the wringer with all my apps. It goes to sleep! No USB storage (unless you want it)! Send mouse wheel events! A wiki full of macros! MIT licensed, details at hackaday.io/project/1819...
A photo of the Adafruit Macropad, running the software Macropad Hotkeys 2. Multi-color LEDs are the keyboard, and a monochrome screen shows some additional details. A rotary encoder is next to the screen at the top right.

"Ah, to be a kid again, during those carefree summer days!" Summer days in 2026:
A post for a kids' summer day camp titled "Camp - Dystopian Days." The description is "step into a world where survival, strategy, and stewardship intertwine. You’ll embark on a dystopian adventure that tests your courage, creativity, and connection to the natural world. Each day brings new missions to build shelters, forage for food, and decode messages hidden in the landscape. Through teamwork and imagination, you’ll learn to see nature as both a challenge and a guide, discovering that the true goal isn’t just to survive, but to reimagine and rebuild a brighter world."

I had to venture into LinkedIn today and was reminded of this passage from the prologue of "Calculus Made Easy" in 1910, casting asunder the techbros of the era:
Prologue: Considering how many fools can calculate, it is surprising that it should be thought either a difficult or tedious task for any other fool to learn how to master the same tricks. Some calculus-tricks are quite easy. Some are enormously difficult. The fools who write the textbooks of advanced mathematics - and they are mostly clever fools - seldom take the trouble to show you how easy the easy calculations are. On the contrary, they seem to desire to impress you with their tremendous cleverness by going about it in the most difficult way. Being myself a remarkably stupid fellow, I have had to unteach myself the difficulties, and now beg to present to my fellow fools the parts that are not hard. Master these thoroughly, and the rest will follow. What one fool can do, another can.

A tale of two GitHubs. Seriously... does anyone's status page actually report current status anymore? Or automate status updates? It seems like it's always shows green and then is manually updated hours after recovery... #github #outage #statuspage
GitHub's status page, showing all systems being operational. They are, in fact, not. Not to mention there are several historical outages listed that show 99.82% uptime in February. The GitHub 500 page which is, unhelpfully, asking me to refresh the page because of an HTTP 500 response.

Huge pivot by Indiana's AG Todd Rokita.
Indiana's Attorney General Todd Rokita standing beside an LGBTQIA+ flag.

If you are reading the alt text I'll give you the bonus content: this was part of an "April Fools" Facebook post he made today where he said "The Left wins... They have finally brainwashed me. I am taking down our 'Come And Take It' flag and replacing it with this one. April Fools!"

Evidently he didn't realize that we can just TAKE THIS PHOTO HE POSED FOR and share that without the benefit of the other post. HOWEVER -

The other flag Todd is referring to is one with a giant cannon shaft on it that says "COME AND TAKE IT." So that is also going on.

Q: Should Ukraine be admitted into NATO or guaranteed protection against Russia? A: UN is corrupt. All options are on the table.

Hey here's another one where someone asks if immigrants to the US are entitled to due process (the answer is "yes," #victoriaspartz answer is "no.")

From the Victoria Spartz town hall that just wrapped - this was her explanation of what DOGE does. About 75 minutes into the town hall, everyone started giving up. #victoriaspartz #doge

Damn, I love Monit. Took me maaaaybe 15 minutes to get my olden RPi B+ and a similarly old USB WiFi adapter to recover as the network signal goes wonky and the stack goes sideways.
A screenshot of the application "Monit" and its logging output showing that a wireless network adapter lost its link to the network, the network was restarted, and the link recovered.

Evidently we did the math and realized we only needed 250 2-megaton bombs to carve the necessary path for passing ships. Bear in mind not only did someone evidently do the planning, AND THE TESTING, enough people thought "hey that's a great idea" that it made A WORLD BOOK ENCYCLOPEDIA ENTRY.
A diagram from World Book Encyclopedia's science supplement showing how a new Panama Canal could be carved through Panama using "megaton explosives" and trap "90% of radioactive material" while leaving sixteen hundred foot wide craters for ships to pass through.

"...but I'm sure they wouldn't actually do that" you might say. BUT EVIDENTLY WE TOTALLY DID in November of 1952. We blew up Elugelab Island, thought to ourselves "hey this is way easier than bulldozers" and brushed the falling radioactive coral and seawater from our suitcoats.
Another photo of an article detailing how a second Panama Canal might be created through a series of quasi-controlled nuclear explosions. One diagram shows the path of the new canal through Panama, while on the opposite page a photo shows how we've evidently already tried this out. The photo shows the before and after of Elugelab Island: "The realization that H-bombs are awesome earth movers came first with the very first Einwetok atoll. The blast obliterated Elugelab Island... leaving a mile-wide hole."

I know it can seem like we live in the dumbest era sometimes... but I submit a 196's supplement for World Book that suggests blowing up portions of Panama to create a second even cooler canal. "Deterrents to such a nuclear-dug canal are mainly political" claims the author.
A photo of a World Book Encyclopedia science supplement from the 1960's and an entry titled "Continental Engineering: Scientists are developing ways to put the immense power of the hydrogen bomb to work for mankind."

In summary, the opening paragraph states how the existing Panama Canal was created "using crude steam shovels and horse-drawn scrapers," then suggests using nuclear bombs to create a second "nuclear-dug canal" in Panama.
