People want someone to act in their best interests. Albanese isn't it, despite his back story.

I think people are tired of labels and just want #Auspol leaders who will act for them. ATM it looks like Shoebridge and Co. Fingers crossed.

I thin it would only take a few more golf club scandals to seal his fate but he might be more careful now. It is more likely that Hannah will steal a ship load of votes but he'll keep it and chicken out of the leadership. Quit while he's ahead. Whether labor can retain a majority is debatable ...

Just because some believe that Teals share some ideology with Libs doesn't mean they are going to support the party. Everybody seems to miss the fact that Indies only listen to their constituents. Sometimes that will look like a Lib vote but mostly it doesn't, esp when it comes to climate and energy

The only ones I realistically expect ethical behaviour from these days is Community Independents as they are not backed by corporate vested interests. Greens come second in that queue as they're also less corruptible but, it will always be Indies first.

Would Labor really change their tune with a new leader? Maybe it they had an ethical crossbench of Indies and Greens. Best outcome would be a minority guv and Indie crossbench.

Yeah, I'm convinced there will be an Indie revolution but it will be a slow process. The Greens might see an upsurge first.

That is probably all true, but in the end it comes down to candidates. Purloin has to find proper candidates to win seats. She doesn't know how to do that. She runs awful people who won't get votes or won't last if they do. Gina's money can't solve that problem. That's why she'll fail. #auspol

They may make a preference deal, but I can't see Purloin's massive ego bending to the LNP will to form a coalition in parliament. She has to be the boss, and won't compromise her bigoted and impractical policies.

Tony Cartledge @decentral21.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Even if they do get more seats than I expect, Purloin won't form any sort of meaningful coalition with the Libs/Nats. And then its only a matter of time before members defect or implode.

I think Labor is still the best of a bad lot for many people and their lead makes removing them difficult. I'd be happy for a half dozen more Independents and Greens on the crossbench and in the senate. They could steer a minority ALP guv and make some good changes.

I may be among the minority, but I'm not concerned about a RWNJ takeover here. PHONy is way too dysfunctional and incompetent to do any real damage, even in a coalition with the LNP. Other countries are well organised and well-funded. PHONy is just well-funded and will implode before long.

Wsith all the pressure on labor atm one can only hope they will be shamed into making a big call - reforming tax, or even the gas PRRT. Otherwise they are going to be decimated at the election. Greens and Independents need to keep up the coward-shaming.

I only watch the quality Star Wars stories, like Andor, which I'm currently enjoying for a second time. The big theme there is that inevitability drives big change. I think our revolution starts with a PHONy club over the head before we abandon partisan BS decisively.

Tony Cartledge @decentral21.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I'm sure there is a political law that the more noise is made about an upset in #Auspol the less it will translate into actual votes. So I hope the PHONy megaphones are turned up to 11 over the next year or so. Their track record of incompetence almost guarantees their failure.

I think it will take a disastrous waste of votes on PHONy and the debacle of giving them a little power before we start to wean ourselves off partisan politics. Then the age of the Independents will be upon us. First as an ethical crossbench and then maybe even as an effective coalition. #Auspol
