“So, what does Decentlab actually make?” Usually the answer takes a few minutes. Now it takes one picture. From soil moisture profiles to air quality, from water level to sap flow, from road surface temperature to a scale for beehives. All LoRaWAN®, all on batteries, built to run for years.

Measuring when ice is about to form – not when it already has. Shaded road between Tiefencastel and Surava, Graubünden: can ice over within an hour of sunset. Our DL-CWS sensor reads road surface temp without touching it, plus air temp, humidity and dew point, over LoRaWAN. buff.ly/0OXqFo3 #IoT

❄️ Winter is planned in autumn – in our workshop too. DL-WRM winter road maintenance sensors are being built in Dübendorf right now: surface temperature (infrared), air temperature, air humidity. Wireless via LoRaWAN®, battery-powered – place and measure. Check out device: buff.ly/GGEBsbq

🌳💧 100 of our DL-SMTP sensors now measure soil moisture at six depths around 100 young trees in Karlsruhe, Germany. First results: watering mostly reaches the upper layers – the deeper ones often get too little. The soil looks watered. The profile shows where the water stopped.

New in our portfolio: the DL-RAD. A river gauge on a bridge. A wet well in a pump station. A stormwater overflow basin. A culvert outfall. These are levels you need to trust during a storm, not just on a dry Tuesday.

💧 Sensor spotlight: DL-PR26 A summer of record-low water levels made it obvious: you can't manage water you don't measure. Submersible pressure probe for wells, boreholes, tanks. Place and measure – no complex setup. Years on two C batteries. LoRaWAN®.

Most of us are back from the summer holidays. The summer we left behind was no ordinary one – record heat and drought across much of Europe. We only know this because someone started measuring, generations ago. Every gap in the data is lost forever. So, welcome back. There's work to do.

In the soil since 2016: a DL-TRS12 measuring soil moisture, temperature and conductivity — ten years, one battery change. The rain falls above ground — the sensor shows how much of it reaches the soil. 🌱 Real-time data on our demo site: buff.ly/eslyb27

🌡️ Always good to see our sensors doing meaningful work. Since summer 2025, a city-wide climate network has been mapping how heat spreads across Dortmund, Germany. The network covers 76 locations across the city, with every station mounted on a streetlamp and connected via LoRaWAN.

🛠️ On the workbench in Dübendorf, everything is still laid out neatly. That won't last. The DL-CTD10B is headed somewhere dark, wet and narrow — tanks, wells, groundwater, open water. Still a lot of handwork in every device. Device DL-CTD10B: buff.ly/aQIOrYa
Photo grid: a white Decentlab enclosure with black probe; cable being cut on a wooden jig; stripped conductors and cutters; splice wrapped in fleece tape; and a flat lay of tools on a blue workbench — pliers, wire strippers, crimper, ruler, ferrules and a coil of black cable.

💧 A few inquiries over the past weeks all had the same shape. The spring yields less. The groundwater drops. And the well sits far from the yard — checked once a week, if that. A sensor doesn't make water. It measures the level: how much is left, how fast it's going. Our sensors: buff.ly/Qm6xnaF

🎥 Nice to see our sensors on television! Summer 2026 keeps bringing one heatwave after another. In the "Yverdon-les-Tropiques" project, HEIG-VD measures temperature and humidity neighbourhood by neighbourhood in Yverdon-les-Bains, using our DL-SHT35-001. Full TV feature: buff.ly/cTmc3IC

💧 Drought across much of Europe this summer. Groundwater responds slowly, so a single reading tells you little — you need a long series. Three LoRaWAN® sensors for groundwater monitoring: DL-PR26: buff.ly/4IRADE4 DL-PR36: buff.ly/YvajuBU DL-PR36CTD: buff.ly/CE3vaZj #drought #heatwave #iot

💧 Soil moisture isn't measured at the surface. It's measured at several levels, over years. Same tree, same probe since July 2019. A DL-SMTP in Guévaux: six levels along a 600 mm profile, every 10 minutes, no recalibration. Two alkaline C batteries. Still running. Real-time data: buff.ly/7UWXnvK

🌅 Sunrise over Zürich — our DL-BLG. The black sphere holds a temperature sensor. Because it's black, it absorbs sunlight and warms above the air temperature in direct sun. That's why open sun is hotter than the shaded air reading — and part of what indices like WBGT capture. Device: buff.ly/BlvJXIQ

Spotted on a summer hike near Gstaad: our Laser Distance / Level Sensor. Elsewhere it tracks water levels and floods. Here it points at a meadow — no water in sight. Why? In summer it measures down to the grass, in winter down to the snow. The difference is the snow depth. Device: buff.ly/oT4tJuz

First the heat, then the water. Europe's record heatwave broke into thunderstorms and flash floods. Here's one of our DL-MBX sensors catching the water level climb on 1 July — ultrasonic, sent over LoRaWAN. Doesn't stop a flood, just flags it early. Check out real-time data: buff.ly/HfZEtxM
A three-part image. Top left: a white Decentlab DL-MBX sensor with a grey ultrasonic head. Top right: a flooded car park with water covering the ground, submerged bollards and waste containers standing in the water, and trees along a riverbank behind. Bottom: a Decentlab dashboard titled "DL-MBX Ultrasonic Distance / Level Sensor for LoRaWAN". A "Water level" chart from 27 June to 1 July stays flat, then rises sharply on 1 July. Below it, a "Measurement quality" bar chart shows steady "Good" readings, and a "Battery" chart holds roughly level.

Switzerland is known for clocks that keep accurate time. Our black globe temperature sensors are built in the same spirit – just for a different kind of measurement. The DL-BLG measures radiant temperature – a key input for the WBGT heat stress index. Check out Datasheet 👉 buff.ly/Oqu2gjK #heat

💧 You can't use the same sensor for every body of water. Whether it’s a roaring river, a calm lake, a fish tank, deep in a well, or out in the snow – the environment dictates the physical principle. That’s why our lineup includes distinct technologies, all transmitting reliably over LoRaWAN:

Over 33°C in Switzerland last week, but officially a "heat period", not a heatwave. Why? 🌡️ A formal heatwave requires the 24h average to hit a threshold 3 days in a row. Because rural Switzerland cooled down at night, that average wasn't met. The reality is Microclimate.

6 years. Almost no maintenance. Installed our DL-MBX ultrasonic level sensor in Dübendorf, CH in June 2020. Haven't touched it since. Still measuring every 10 min. Captured the June 2024 floods (905M CHF damage, Lake Zurich danger level 4) in real time.
Decentlab dashboard and field photo of the DL-MBX Ultrasonic Distance / Level Sensor for LoRaWAN®. The dashboard shows three charts covering several years of continuous data: a water level chart with seasonal fluctuations and a clear peak during the Swiss floods, a measurement quality chart consistently rated "Good" in green, and a battery voltage chart showing a gradual decline followed by a step up after a battery replacement. Below the dashboard, a photo shows the white sensor mounted on a metal bracket above a moss-covered concrete spillway in Dübendorf, Switzerland, with water flowing down into a stream.
