The Watch, Prague. Acros #Photography #Blackandwhitephotography #Monochrome #Travel #Travelphotography #Streetphotography #Prague #Fuji #Fujifilm

A policeman stands next to a member of the Czech armed forces. They are backlit by headlights streaming through fog. They face away from the camera, across a square to the walls of a palace. In the distance, news presenters speak to cameras from behind lecterns. They cast long shadows from the television lights.

Na Kampě in November, Czechia. Fuji Acros #Photography #Monochromephotography #Blackandwhitephotography #Blackandwhite #Travel #Streetphotography #Czechia #Prague #Fuji #Fujifilm

A black and white scene in Central Europe. The viewer is looking down into the street from an elevated position. A curving old wall carves the frame in the middle before sweeping off to the bottom right. A pavement is cobbled in a chequerboard pattern. The road, made of small cube cobbles in the shape of intersecting fans runs from bottom to top and is lined on the other side by trees. A low November sun throws long shadows of the trees across the road. A couple in the centre of the frame make their way down the street as a solitary figure approaches in the opposite direction. The picture looks beautiful and cold.

Bridge, Merseyside. #Photography #Landscapephotography #Travelphotography #Travel #Fuji

The underside of a great concrete bridge sweeps across the top of the frame. It is painted in shadow, held aloft by austere pillars rising above a flat wasteland.
As the sweep rolls away to the right of frame, contracting to a fine line, tall, sail-like supports reach into a grey sky. It is a vast suspension bridge across the river Mersey, viewed from below.

The Rounds, Bradford. #Photography #Behindthescenes #BTS #Filmmaking #Yorkshire #Panasonic

Two men, one older, one much younger, gaze off camera. The portrait captures the older man looking both serious and melancholy. The younger has a look of arrogant amusement. Both are in typical 70s outfits. The portrait has a warm cast, evoking the period.

Rua do Almada, Porto. #Photography #Travelphotography #Streetphotography #Travel #Portugal #Porto #Fuji #Fujifilm

A busy street portrait. The classic facades of Porto overlook a street cramped with modern cars. The scene falls away in the distance and the road pitches downwards.
The eye is drawn to a mid-20th century white sign describing a lighting bolt. Red text running down the sign reads “Vieira & Silva”.

Vivara, Italy. #Photography #Landscapephotography #Travel #Travelphotography #Italy #Procida #Sony

A landscape photo of the island of vivara, with the larger connected island of Procida in the background. The lower third is a block colour of rich blue sea, the island, viewed from the elevated position of the camera, is a thin strip of land slashing the centre of the frame. Lush greenery sits atop yellow stone cliffs. A lightly clouded sky stretches above, filling the rest of the frame.

Mercado do Bolhão, Porto. #Photography #Travelphotography #Streetphotography #Portugal #Porto #Fuji #Fujifilm

A street scene within a market. A lady waits to be served at a stall selling wine. The bottles are smartly presented on shelves and in hampers. The lighting is subtle , with the woman almost in silhouette. A small, chilled counter in front of her casts a rim light, tracing the outline of her arm.

Large port barrel, Porto. #Photography #Travel #Travelphotography #Streetphotography #Portugal #Porto #Fuji #Fujifilm

The face of a huge port barrel fills the frame, presenting a very flat composition. It is in darkness, with a hard slash of light illuminating a slice top left to bottom right. It is of a rich, dark wood, with the colour shifting from a dark yellow to a deep maroon as the light falls away. Neat, stencilled text in white on the barrel reads “TN 009. Litres 20689”
Slashing to to bottom is an analogue volume meter of wood painted white, with small black markings, reminiscent of a giant thermometer.

Main St. Snohomish #Photography #Travel #Travelphotography #Sony

A very wide image of a high street in small town America. The sky is blanketed with the dark textured clouds typical of Washington. The eye is drawn to the left third which is filled with a gleaming white vintage corvette.

Weekend drive. #Photography #Travel #Filmphotography #classiccars #Fujifilm

A walnut dashboard cuts across the image. It’s dotted with old dials. A green band of metal borders it at the top, as it follows the flowing shape of the car. Small panes of aviator glass are visible on top. The right third of the image is filled with a vintage steering wheel. The hands holding it are beginning to turn and fingers are outstretched to the indicator lever. A seeming monochrome of trees is passing by, contrasting starkly with the orange wood of the car.

Robin Hoods Bay. #photography #Travelphotography #Travel #Yorkshire #Fuji

A landscape photography on a sunny day. The camera is looking up a steep, narrow pathway between old houses. There are flowers and wall creepers around Georgian windows. The buildings crowd together to give a feeling of coziness. There is no sign of a road.

Big Day Out, North Yorkshire. #Photography #Travelphotography #Travel #Streetphotography #Yorkshire #England #Fuji #Dogs

The whitewashed walls and brightly coloured front doors of a beautiful coastal town form the backdrop of the image.
The subjects are tourists; a middle aged couple. The wife has spotted a good view for a picture and has instructed the husband to stand to attention. She is holding her phone aloft for the snap. The husband, much amused, is proudly holding aloft the star of the show; an adolescent golden retriever. It is almost too big to carry, but still sports the face of a puppy. Despite the wife’s efforts, the puppy has spotted me capturing the scene, and innocently stares into my lens instead.

Moment Before Impact, North Yorkshire. #Photography #Travelphotography #Yorkshire #Travel #Dogs #Fuji

A double tier of seawall, adorned with colourful beach huts slashes the image and fills the top third. The rest of the frame is filled with the sand of the beach. Looming large, approaching the centre of frame are two dogs. Their motion blur, the sand kicked up from their feet and their proximity to the camera all starkly foretell the imminent fate of the cameraman. The dogs are playing, snapping at each other while they run at full speed. They, unlike the cameraman and the viewer, are unaware of what is about to happen.

Castle walls, Ischia. #Photography #Travelphotography #Italy #Landscapephotography

A decrepit tractor strapped tight with tarp to protect what’s left of its engine. The vehicle dominates the bottom left of the frame. Attached, drawing the eye away, is a rusted trailer with a wooden boat. The boat is white with a small array of electronic equipment rising above the bow on a spindly metal arch. Black lettering along its hull marks it as WY209. Peeping from behind the boat in the bottom right of frame is the sand of the beach, rising to a blue grey sea. A sky of dense textured cloud hangs above the scene.

Pals, Capri. #Photography #Travelphotography #Streetphotography #Italy #Capri

The camera peeps from behind a tree which covers the right of the frame. Rugged coastal rocks frame the bottom. A clear blue sea fills the rest of the picture. Boats bob in the background. The subject is a grey dinghy which appears to levitate from the ocean floor, atop the crystal water. A mean reclines in the stern, taking a tiny sliver of shade from a cover over the steering wheel. In the bow, a laughing man stands with his foot on the rib. The two are clearly enjoying one another’s company.

Tourists atop Primrose Hill. Kodak UltraMax #Photography #Filmphotography #Streetphotography #Travelphotography #Travel #35mm #London

A dense row of figures stand, almost silhouetted, on the crest of a hill, drawing a line from the left to right of frame. They are lit from behind by a setting sun, creating a contrast between the dark grass in the bottom half of the frame, and the bright sky above.
The figures all look over the photographers head at a scene beyond, many taking photographs on their phones.

A woman sits in the right of frame looking out over a wide vista. She sits atop a hill, hair lit by a setting sun. She looks over the fields below to the next hill rising from the ground. The distant hill has thick fog rolling over it, and the land beyond is obscured below the blanket. The fog is a painting of light and shadow as it catches the fading light.

Saints at Sea. With the changing of the season, I think it’s time to move into colour for a while. #Photography #Travel #Italy #Landscapephotography

An old stone harbour wall cuts across the image. Azure sea sits calmly across the bottom third while blue sky dominates the top. A very old conical building sits in centre frame with an alabaster saint at its peak, blessing vessels as they embark on their voyage.

Large buildings cluster around the frame. From top right descending to the bottom centre, the great northern warehouse recedes into the distance. Its lettering is illuminated whilst its facade falls into shadow. A striking example of Victorian architecture, it contrasts with the tall glass of Beetham tower which stretches above in the distance, in the centre of the frame. The sharp, jutting steel balcony of a modern apartment block cuts across the left third of the frame.

A top-down monochrome wide landscape in 16:9. A rickety wooden dock cuts a diagonal line across the top right of the image. A line of trainers along the dock await their owner’s return. Dark water fills the rest of the image. A razor narrow rowing boat slashes diagonally across the centre of the image. Four young rowers appear to be getting to grips with their oars which fan out alternately on either side. A cox at the end of the craft inspects his team.

A landscape image with tall vertical lines. A narrow street runs between two tall rows of buildings. The end of the short street is capped with a similar building, giving it an enclosed feel. The architecture is industrial and Victorian, dominated by brick with black iron balconies and wooden steps to front doors. A corrugated iron bridge spans the street, further emphasising the sense of enclosure.
